my pre-season viewing has been Bournemouth YouTube & yesterdays game but Davis has been one of our best players and has to start next week. Away at Anfield will see us with long spells without the ball so Wanyama is going to be important so that leaves Cork, Taider or JWP for the final birth. JWP offers the better attacking threat(mainly from set plays) Taider showed decent attacking intent and a willingness to get forward yesterday but its far too early to judge. I like Cork and I think he is great at keeping possession but he is down the pecking order for Ronald. Out of all our 1st eleven last season Morgan was always going to be the most difficult to replace. If only we had someone still in the squad with similar qualities.

Disappointed that some fans were wearing the old "liverpool" kit yesterday. I hope they were soundly beaten by mobs of rampaging be-striped fans after the match.
Bit late but hey ho... Ratings Boruc - 5 didnt have much/anything to do but should have stopped the OG Bertrand - 6 looked pretty solid at the back but didnt offer much in attack Yoshida 3.5/4 - didnt make too many mistakes but the ones he did were costly. Bailed out far too often by fonte and wanyama. New CB essential! Fonte- 7 quality! Completely different player to the one that started in our first pl season. Solid! Clyne- 7 linked up well with tadic and gave their fullback issues Jwp- 5 gave the ball away a few times and looked a bit uninspiring.. great player just not a good day Davis -7 same old davis... doing lots of good work and working hard for the team even if some may think he didnt do alot. Good game! Wanyama 8 - MOTM for me. Broke up their attacks well and really got stuck in. Also saved yoshidas bacon a few times! He will be vital this season Tadic - 7 looked bright in the first half hour and last 20 minutes... linked up well with clyne and stevie d Isgrove - 6 not overly effective against big german defenders but looked bright and wasnt afraid to run at the opposition Pelle- 6 won virtually everything that came to him in the air. Dont understand people moaning about him he had no chances to score, and linked up the play well. Need some cover as well though Subs: Taider -6.5/7 looked so cool and composed on the ball even under significant pressure. Good range of passing and a few crunching tackles. Cork- 6.5 linked up the play well and allowed the team to become far more cohesive.. should start above jwp at the moment. Gaston - 6 didnt have a lot of time but looked good. Good control and he carved out a couple of chances. Is this his season? Mayuka- 6 lively and energetic but seemed to run down to the box and then freeze up not knowing what to do. I think he needs a chance to show what he can do! All in all a disappointing result but some pieces of tidy play and helped koeman identify what we really need. Few more signings and we will be fine! Well now I've read it all. Apparently, Arsenal beat a rusty Man City today. Is this another way of saying that Man City had an off-day..? So what has this got to do with Saints..? Well it's because every time we beat someone it's they who have the off-day. Or perhaps they're just rusty..? OK, last season the media often forgot to add that point. It did seem to be a caveat especially set aside for us, from way back when. Were Saints rusty against Bayer Leverkusen or did that team just beat the 11 in front of them fair and square..? You know what..? I'm going to go with rusty. I feel we're owed a fair few.
To be fair to them we didn't give them much of a chance to say it last season I'm sure if we'd managed to get more points out of the top 7 they would've wheeled out the excuse trolley. Hopefully we'll hear it more again this season...........next weekend will do for the first occasion.
Pretty sure I read that Liverpool had had an off-day at Anfield, last season. It was only later in the year that the media turned their off-day into Saints excellent performance. Of course, Liverpool played 4 CBs, so that was the excuse at the time. Then, when Bayern Munich did the same in one match, that excuse for Liverpool magically disappeared.
Odd how a simple statement can be turned to say something different, the headline says "he doesn't want a loan move to Southampton", what he actually said was he wanted a permanent move to wherever he would go, or would rather stay where he was.
Altogether now 'He's just come down from the Eredevisie He's no very big and awfy shy All the fans shout as he goes by Ronald wears cream troosers'
That very nearly works. Eredivisie is an awful lot to mouth at the end of the first line though, and buggers it up. Could we sing it Elvis Presley style..? Where's Andy Stewart when you need him..?
Also from the Andy Stewart stable comes this old favourite: "There was a footballer, a Croatian footballer Oh how he did perspire, the day his shorts caught fire..."
