On the subject of pre season games, when's the last season we played anyone any good. It's been **** opposition for years and no one complained. How many times have we lost at Millwall in last decade. Some of the stuff this morning reads as though we've been relegated. Cheer up lads
I have, I have been crying out for us to play better quality opposition, not at the very start of pre season but certainly at some stage or else how do you possibly judge who is playing well? I predicted a 2-0 defeat yesterday, NOT because I am pessimistic, I was being realistic based on what I had seen. Those who predicted a walk in the park over Millwall did so based on what? Pre season games against poor opposition. Millwall will be in a relegation dog fight this season, so will we and my only positive to come out of it is we have three hopefully better players who did not feature yesterday
Well I looked at the starting line up yesterday and against us pre season and noticed 4 changes at least, possibly 5 as there are two Smiths. I also looked at the Swindon report on the friendly and it stated average age of 20 and that they used several trialists, I guess those trial players were signed up Either way, I stand by what I believe, poor quality pre season opponents made us look better than we were and against Millwall it was no surprise to me that we lost. Hockaday selected the wrong team, he won't be here in 10 games if he is we will be bottom or at least in a relegation zone.
Hopefully those three will be better and bolstered by maybe three more over the coming month. We are still seriously hampered by players on big contracts that we can't get rid of. Kenny, hunt and Morisson. We may have to see out their contracts which is a horrible thought. No one form the owner down to the most optimistic fan predicted anything for this season other than mid table survival at best while club is stabilised. That's what it's gonna be sadly ristac
I will take mid table, I shouldn't be willing to but I am. The problem at the moment is with Hockaday picking last years left overs we have no chance of mid table
At least hockaday won't be first coach / manager sacked. Robins gone from Huddersfield after first game. Great planning that
The hope that just maybe we could fluke something and be sat like dog with two dicks taking the piss instead of mighty and tc doing it. That's what makes the world go round.
Got to get my tuppence worth in here. As he is the subject of a bidding war, Byram was on show at RB yesterday. No way would he be dropped or played elsewhere for Berardi when money is talking. End of. Pre-season opposition. No team plays difficult opposition if they can help it, particularly if they have a side with a load of new players in it finding their feet. The mantra is, and always will be, that it is all about fitness & potential tactics/player combinations. Getting stuffed by 2 or 3 good teams & not having the opportunity to see what players can do is never going to do anything for team building or confidence. Last decent team that we played that I remember was Valencia 13 years ago. Get real.
Three years ago in pre season we played a decent Newcastle United side at ER and beat them 3-2. We still turned out to be **** that season
That result and plenty of others against Liverpool, Spurs, Scum and Arsenal only showed what our players were capable of ..... when it suited them and when they wanted to put themselves in the shop window. They just turned up and made up the numbers for the rest of their time at the club and showed no commitment to Leeds only to themselves. Young Bruce played out of his skin in all those games yet was garbage for us. he plays well in the prem for Hull though now. These big-time charlies who came to Leeds for the money did us no favours, as they looked after themselves only
2009-2010 Newcastle, Burnley, Blackburn 2010-2011 Wolves then in the PL and Bran the Norwegian PL 2011-2012 - Sheff Wednesday and Newcastle Before this we were in the third tier of football, we have played teams better than us and at least equal to pre season before, it's been the last two that were awful. If you look at previous pre season we played lesser teams and then the final 2-3 were better quality ones. I just believe in pre season you should play at least two games against equal quality opposition as the division you are in, you can then judge where you are as a team and who is actually performing better as a player Hockaday picked his team based on how they had performed in their pre season matches, well I assume he did. I don't believe the Byram statement either, if anything he will have lowered in value and against a Millwall side and a game that has been physical in the past we wouldn't have risked injuring him. His inclusion in the starting 11 leads me to believe he is staying but time will tell.
