There was much foolish talk when we got promoted in 2008 about millionaires mooring their yacht in the Marina, and hundreds of PL 'footy' fans staying the w/e in Hull. Complete bollocks of course. Now we have the prospect of several hundred football foreign fans overnighting it in Hull....will we have the hotels and hospitality to cope with it? Is the city gearing up for it? Will the away fans section be fitted with bidets ?
More likely local Plod will totally over react and either try and close all the pubs in Hull like they tried and failed to pull off legally when we played TWS in a pre season friendly a while back. Or they will kettle the visiting fans and bus them off somewhere remote for the afternoon. When in the real world Hull City Tourist Board (if we have one) should already be making plans to dress the city centre up to welcome the visitors from Belgium. We hear so much about them wanting a mid week late night economy in the city centre to boost jobs etc, well here is a god given chance to prove it. Flags should be out, bunting should be out as should welcome signs and everything possibly done to encourage them to come back. But we all know what will happen? Hull Daily Mail shock horror headlines. Warning from the Police Commander to behave 'OR ELSE' Calls to close the pubs. Visiting fans not allowed into the city centre.............anyone know how many arrests were made at Ladies Day today by the way ?
I really hope they don't as it will just make it worse. Let them do what they want, let them spend money at local pubs and places as it will be great for the city. We won't reap the beneifts if the plod get involved
I bet they have no trouble getting 'officers' out for the day on the back of this football match. Plus every other bit of kit they can muster and charge for. The way the visiting fans of Royal Antwerp were treated was disgraceful. I hope we don't see a repeat. Football fans spend money too.
I can see Nadine Fudge being wheeled out onto King George Dock to welcome them, and Terry Geraghty will have organised a RL 7-a-side tournament in their honour.

Fair enough. I once got a load of abuse in Flemish from a young girl in a supermarket 'cos I made the mistake of addressing her in French. She looked like butter wouldn't melt but she went absolutely apeshit with me. I had to leave, purchases unpurchased. Another time I barely escaped with my face in tact having wandered into a backstreet bar in Ypres where Englishmen should fear to tread. It was like An American Werewolf. Touchy lot, ya Belgiums.
Really hope we welcome them with open arms and make their stay fantastic like i without having to imagine they will for us.ps sorry if covered on another thread but are we as obv football fans ok for travelling on the ferry?....remember reading somewhere that P&O hate football fans.
