But we came 2nd, so doesn't the end justify the means? Don't tell me you think we would have won the league with Reina or another keep that you think would have been obtainable? Out of interest, who do you think we should have got instead of Mig?
Begovic is hardly a supreme distributer and quick out of his box. I'd say he's very similar to Mig, brilliant shot stopper, maybe a bit better from crosses though
Begovic is much better imo, but has that same weakness which is apparently so critical for a keeper in our system.
Two new rumours. Football-Italia.net says Lazio has rejected a 16mill bid for 19 yo striker Keita Balde Diao. Forzaitalianfootball.com says we're planning a bid for 21 year old inter striker Mauro Icardi. Not sure if either website is reliable. Rodgers must think it is safe to have Italians at the club now Suarez has left.
We came second under Evans with James as keeper didn't we? He was a big part of the reason we came second....and not in a good way. Great shot stopper too Would we have won it this year with Reina in goal? Impossible to answer, I can't say yes for sure but it still nags at me that we might have. Begovic was indeed the keeper we were linked with and is the keeper I'd have gone for no doubt about it. He's solid as a rock and he knows what a back four should look like....and if you lads are suggesting he's as slow off his line as Mings you're nuts (Ming rarely gets out of his six yard box nevermind the area). I accept he had his heart set on Ming (Rodgers has earned the right to pick who he wants) but why didn't we just get a stop gap keeper too? Let Ming settle for a while and learn from an experienced head or at least give him some bloody competition (Friedel sat on the bench at Spurs all year and he'd have marshalled our shower a whole lot better....and not dropped a cross either).
One's Spanish and the other's Argentinian Not exactly the answer upfront we were looking for though. We've already signed Origi, how many more expensive players for the future are we going to sign?
Markovic missed training again today, very unlikely to return against Dortmund and a serious doubt to be fit for Southampton.
In the last few years Reina was very very ordinary, the number of goals that went in where i thought, he should of really got to that. Okay his distribution was good but that may help the team but does it win games, there were very few times in recent years i thought ' how did he get to that' when watching Reina, last season with Ming there was at least 6 times Now thats 6 goals, add that to the ones Reina let in that he could of done better, and Ming saved ( just average saves) and they are ticking up As far as mistakes leading to goals they are on about a par. Youv'e got to admit that at times last season the defence left a lot to be desired, so the number conceded cannot be attributed solely to Ming Personally i feel we would have finished quite a bit lower had Pepe been our No1 last season( presuming he did not recover his form from say 5 years ago+) That was Mings first year and hopefully with a bit more reliability of the people in front he will get better with growing confidence, i mean how easy can it be when you are worried, that at any point Kolo or Skirts could sneak in with a crafty attempt
I don't have a problem with Mignolet either - for me he's one of the best shot stoppers in the PL. That's the main job of a goal keeper to stop shots going in! I know these days other elements are important like distribution (which towards the end of the season he improved on) and Commanding your area at corners (something he does really need to work on, but I'm sure BR knows that and he'll be training hard to improve). With Lovren the beast in front of him, we'll improve certain situations - e.g. Getting everyone ****ing organised at corners. Look he's never going to be a Neur, but who is? For me Neur is the best goal keeper I've witnessed in my life time. Schmeical comes a close 2nd, but Neur is next level robot ****. But I tell you what, we could do a hell of a lot worse than Migs. As someone mentioned that was his first full season, so for me he did very well and is more than likely to improve.
Apparently Kuyt has turned down joining United because he loves LFC too much. I got that off of twitter. I like big Dirk, he can have anothern10 years for doing that.
good man dirk wonder if he would have become world class overnight if he had of ended up going to that shower
Reina is the past and made loads of mistakes and bad judgement and blasted his defence. He was good at distribution but had runners ahead of him like Torres to throw the ball out to. Ming is the future, a very good underrated keeper who could only throw it to Suarez. Give Ming a chance, he made a very good contribution last year. Only reason we conceded 50 last year was cause we tried to out score the opposition. That will change this year
I guess Migs and Skrtel are the new Kuyt and Lucas then They both got unfair criticism at the start of their Liverpool careers and proved people wrong. Only odd bit is Skrtel, he WAS **** for years and he's become good to then receive ****, make no sense.
skrtel has one good season every 4 yrs migs had no leader in front of him last season to organize things, so i am still hopeful he will come good, well if finishing 2nd in your first season at a new club is bad lol, but Can will hopefully improve us this season and Lovren as well. i want to see gerrard in the final 3 personally, i don't think he offers much defensively, yeah the argument is the balls he can spray around, but what about that lethal right foot? that can be huge this season, esp with the loss of luis, and apart from sturridge our strikers at this moment in time are like meh. sterling, ibe(if given opportunities), coutinho, henderson, lallana, need to see more gaols from them this season.
I agree to an extent on Skrtel, slight difference being he's just been our best defender in two of the last three years and in the first of those he was voted POTY at Liverpool too. You won't find a bigger critic of Skrtel, he frustrates the hell out of me. But credit where credit is due, he's been good in recent seasons. I know what you means about the attacking players but I think that's the Suarez hole that needs to be filled. We can't be looking for one player to fill it, it needs to be a new approach. We've not really seen a first eleven in pre-season so can't really judge this either.
We should judge Mignolet at the end of the season, or at least not until January. How many of the goals last season were a direct result from a keeper error? Not many, and I would guess that Reina wouldn't have fared any better given that he can be very flappy. Reina with Kolo the clown and O.g. Skrtel last year would have struggled too, I would say Mig is the much better shot stopper. I really hope that Sakho has improved his English to a more confident level. If so, Mig will have 2 leaders in front of him at CB this year. All he needs to do now is to "accidentally" wipe out Johnson when claiming a ball.
