Ok well the bt thing i forgot about totally so the balance between prem 5th and prem 4th in the CL will be redressed some there and the haves and have nots will grow apart more then. it makes sense to me to hear that.
I agree with your main point to a certain extent. The premiership has become so financially big that it is not only bigger than other leagues in Europe but also the champions league itself. If the Spanish league had the same distribution system of TV money as the premiership clubs like real and Barca would only get a fraction of what the clubs here earn. In fact to follow this argument, premiership clubs outside the top 6 or7 should be very careful about any cup (FA, coc, Europa ) runs. A good cup run which leads to a distraction from premiership survival could be financially disastrous. It has happened to Wigan, and hopefully will not happen to hull and others. The idea is to get into the Europa but not to win it as you really should play your reserves! What is the point of a club like WBA or even Everton (due respect to them and no offence intended) getting a CL place if the next season their thinner squad means their premiership tenure is put at risk? What I am saying is that other than the top 5-6 clubs, no other club should even try to get into CL or the Europa.
What a load of crap. No offence, but what's the point in playing if all you're hoping to do is finish between 8th and 17th? Teams should hope to get into Europe which in turn will help sell the club to foreign players (remember everyone outside of England actually sees the Europa league as a decent competition). Then you can gradually build a squad capable of playing and coping with the demands of more football until you become a club that regularly in the EL and then start to try and pus for the CL.
I was only pushing MITO argument to the extreme. I am sure some owners think like that although the fans of course don't. Staying in the premiership is a huge prize for some just like for some of the top clubs a CL place is a trophy Ps: many clubs have fallen out of the premiership doing exactly the sort of thing you've described. Just tell me which of the clubs outside the top 6 have a secure premiership tenure?
well.... maybe its crap cos you are an LFC fan who wants to win. perhaps if you were an everton fan you'd feel different the other thing about gradual is look at southampton.. you can't gradually build as the big boys see any sort of player they are in and you get stripped. you have to imporve faster than you lose players.
I take it you are really worried about this season then, you have gone from outside the top six into the CL with a thin squad and lost your best player also. Must be a risk to your premiership tenure?
It'd be a fine repost except for the phakct that we threw 100 mil at signing with another 40 odd reputed to go
There is only one manager in the current top 8 that has ever taken a Champions League Club down into relegation territory... and that was Van Gaal- had Barcelona in relegation zone in January and got sacked (Barcelona rebounded up near the top of the table after getting rid of him).
Success and Exposure in things like the Cl and being succesful in the Premiership, will bring huge revenues from the massive external markets of the Far East and US Kids growing up will choose a successful team to support, walk down the streets in any of these places, they are not wearing Southampton,Hull and Newcastle shirts( no disrespect) They are wearing Liverpool,Man Utd,Chelsea,Barcelona,Bayern Munich kit The sponsorship and merchandise revenues from being well known in these places is where the incentive lies to qualify for CL to keep the exposure up
