Newcastle United are hoping to land Loic Remy or Alexandre Lacazette but loan move for Joel Campbell has been mooted

Newcastle United will be offered another chance to sign Arsenal and Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell.

United remain in the hunt for either Alexandre Lacazette and Loic Remy but the Chronicle understands that Campbell could be presented to United as a possible loan signing before the window shuts.

West Ham had been interested in bringing Campbell to Upton Park earlier this month but Sam Allardyce has since ruled out the switch.

Campbell is available on loan and while he does want to stay at Arsenal long-term, a loan move to a Premier League club is an option. The Gunners, though, would demand a sizeable loan fee for his services.

United struck up a good business rapport with Arsenal earlier this summer when selling Mathieu Debuchy to the London club. And while moves to AC Milan and Crystal Palace haven’t came off for Campbell he could be pushed into the direction of Newcastle again.

The player starred in the World Cup for Costa Rica after helping them reach the last eight before being knocked out by Holland. Campbell spent last season on loan at Olympiakos in Greece.

Just seen this. there is no point in taking him on loan for a "sizeable fee" just to develop him for Arsenal, and with no chance of signing him after the loan ends.

Agree. It's either a purchase or nothing for me with this chap.

I think this should only be if we can't seal any of our other targets, it doesn't fit our current business model and would be doing Arsenal a favour rather than ourselves.

Not convinced he is better than any that we have already brought in anyway.

Yeah I think at this stage we have the numbers up front, any striker we bring in should be a 'marque' signing.

Joel Campbell is probably in the same 'hope' category of untried and untested player as Riviere and Ferreyra. Other than a top striker/winger, I'd be far more happy with a good CB coming in.

What is wrong with Pardew, can't he see a CB is a bigger priority for this season than any further strikers.

I'm not convinced it is that simple. Unless we can find takers for Mbiwa or Saylor, no move would be sanctioned.

Don't want! Have high hopes for Riviere! He has looked a lot better than I thought he would in pre-season and seems to link up well with our other players.

Would have ..ONLY if a loan with option to buy. No point in training up Arse players at the detriment of our lads

Agree with you about Riviere .. I had him down as an upgraded Shola replacement ..He has looked far, far better than i thought he would so far.. Good movement off ball, link play, strong and seems footballing smart too.

I think we need more of a physical presence, someone who can hold the ball in the Ba mould.
