Just wondering what the perception on here is of Allan McGregor and his performances against free kicks. I personally feel incredibly nervous when a free kick is taken against us. More so than usual because it has been identified as a area of weakness by opponents. I just feel his reading of the situation is incredibly slow, his agility is lacking and his reactions are delayed. I went to the game last night and just watched the highlights. I saw the free kick Trencin had again and it got me thinking about creating this thread. Even last night I felt had that last minute free kick hit the target then it would have likely gone in and once again he showed his frailty when it comes to this facet in goalkeeping. It very strange considering he is a great all round keeper but it is slightly concerning how frail and susceptible we are to free kicks. Fair enough some of last years free kicks came from some of the best free kick takers in the world such as Cazorla, Toure and Gerrard but he doesn't even seem to get closed to them or even know what has happened. Definitely and area that needs more work doing on it.
Agreed, as soon as they got that free kick on the edge I started to get nervous! He's conceded to some of the best players around, but still I reckon the amount of goals from free kick's last season will be amongst the highest in the league.
There is an easy way to tackle this - get the rest of the team to stop giving free kicks away in dangerous positions
Now shoot me down in flames if you feel you need to but I have thought about this loads of times, here goes lol. Wouldnt it be not such a daft idea not to have a wall the 10 yards away from the free kick , basically not have a wall at all. This might sound crazy but wouldnt it help the GK in some way regards visibilty of the ball etc . I will get my coat
Sorry lads I f**king try, it's hard when the balls whipped in at pace, I have literally a second to react and im not the tallest guy, giz a break and me names allan not alan but allan
Too good for him. Just dowse him in petrol n throw a match. Get a ****ing English goalie that's the answer.
He got his hand to the one against Arsenal. His problem on that day was he tried to second guess Corzola and he took a step to his right. Fatal mistake
He's been an excellent signing. When did we have a better keeper? We really don't need some chump, named after a wrestler, questioning his ability after an historic night playing competitive European football.
Now. Now. Don't play devil's advocate just because I have called you out on your stupidity on a number of occasions. I've not been posting on this forum for long and you haven't either but by the looks of it you are highly regarded as quite an embarrassing poster by many. So it's probably best to take most things that you say with a pinch of salt. The point I made is entirely valid and I am not the first person to mention it. Also. We are on an internet forum that is here for fans to discuss numerous different subjects. One being opinions on the players performances and by your standards, only people with a history in football are allowed to have an opinion on such matters. He is a quality player. An astute signing and possibly one of, if not the best goalkeepers we have ever had. However he appears to have a glaring weakness in his game which is saving and movement when we have to defend against free kicks. As for my username being the name of a Wrestler. So what. Any 'CHUMP' could Google that and find it out. Here's hoping you're not going to be one a poster that follows me round the forum, quoting every post I make and deliberately opposing it regardless of the content. Back to your cave for your meat and two veg.
Easier said than done these days. Players just fall down if they are brushed now and you have to be able to challenge someone in that area.
