Canmore in Alberta would suit me nicely.

I'd probably move to Northumberland. If not that either LA or Hong Kong. To be fair though, I quite like where I am now.

I did live in London for a while, it's alright. I prefer New York. I think I probably would have liked it more had I lived in Surrey, i.e. close to the city but also the country.

ETA: Mind you the weather is proper **** in NY. Boiling summers and freezing winters.

Oddly enough it's quite pleasant here today. Still it's usually the other way around in August. I expect a rash of 100 degree days any time soon.

I travel all over the UK too, and my two fave areas to work in is the North East & Portsmouth. But the idyllic place to live in the UK? A village called Burton on the Water, in the Cotswolds. Only get to spend an hour there each year, but it truly is idyllic.

    PERFECT!!!

Lived many years in London and Brighton..some years in New York a wee while in Berlin, and scattered round UK ...and while great to visit wouldnt want to live in that size of city again. Currently half n half tween wales and deepest rural france atm (No neighbours!! << worth its weight in gold to me)...

Want to live in ..New Zealand, or Vancouver or some places in Cornwall ..or an island in pacific...or..just give me a campervan and unlimited fuel and I'd be happy

I think I'd always come back to Northumberland, beautiful place. I like Rothbury and all that neck of the woods in terms of settling down in the future.

where are you in rural France ? I really want to buy a place over there in a couple of years, nothing expensive and something to work on over a couple of years... my ideal would be a place here and a place in France... been going there for years now and love the place, and the best bit is - its so close and easy to get to !

Auvergne ..NE of Toulouse on bottom of massif central... Did the same myself ...bought four walls basically and built the vast majority of the rest myself ( I work freelance so too much work - no work type occupation rhythm, when no work bugger off there and build ...stuff.. still not fully finished 90-95% done after 10 odd yrs)..I love the quality of life over there...nearest neighbour 500m away...people there are great...( its the least populated department so they pretty cool about ppl arriving)

No water rates ( own spring) council tax of 100 odd euros a year ...oops forgot plus 50 for the bin men ( get given PROPER placcy bags for the year tho)

One of the best decisions I made...if you fancy it ..go for it man its a no lose proposition if you buy at the cheap/run down end..ie if it goes belly up..you will still get the small investment you make back ..eventually..might take time to sell is all but it will go eventually (any questions fire away AHM)

Agreed. Saw Pellegrini in Piccolino's near there a bit back. Out with his family for his kids birthday. Came a cross as as very courteous and polite fellow. The food and Barolo in there was to die for....

Rate Piccolinos as far as chains go. Sensible pricing and good food. The one in Newcastle is great for a quick bite and the staff are superb.

Cornwall is where my ancestors originated from. My family tree shows both Cornish tin minors and convicted pirates in the family. Sadly I have only travelled as far as Devon in the UK but will trace my roots in the coming years..
