Had I landed from the moon and observed this behaviour it would be hard for me to explain to my boss - the Giant Head - ... '....seems to be a place where people exchange knowledge or best guesses on 4 legged beasts that race against each other ... the avowed aim is to take cash from something called a 'bookie' .... - unbelievably they have been very good @ it recently ... and yet still some of the club don't like it .... Irrational and illogical at best .. plain daft to me .... Recommendation - ignore the nay say'ers and colonise ... Keep putting them up Stick , Cracker , Bob and anyone else .. no-one is forcing anyone to back them ... and a big thank you to Attivo - sterling work !!
It's a bit like a pub lads, it's not always harmonious and we all have buttons that get pushed. I am not looking to criticise anyone personally or dictate what they should do, but if I can try to offer a view this is how it looks. Attivo has taken up the invite for someone to start a daily thread which I think is appreciated. He has been running away with his remit a little which started out as a simple where is racing taking place? and what is the going? Part of this getting carried away is to promote stick and his selections with some rather humorous idolatory language (which I hope for Attivo's sake is tongue in cheek). I feel he is not doing Stick any favours in doing this as he has put him on a hiding to nothing which he is now experiencing and re-acting to. It's a hiding to nothing because if stick puts up losers Attivo is shining a big spotlight on them and if he puts up a string of winners (as he has) the idolatry language was always likely be resented by some and re-acted to. Stick himself is doing nothing wrong and never asked for this, he is simply doing what he has always done and we all do, which is put up our fancies. He is a valued part of the regular forum and his selections are certainly among the more informed on here as most would agree, whilst his current run of form has been nothing but exceptional. Because of the backlash to Attivo's wording however Stick is now taking one or two posters comments to heart and having his button pushed which provokes a 's** you i'm off' effect, which we have seen before (he does love us and the place really however and will always come back). I think most would agree however that there really is no need for him to go and we can all gain a little perspective and continue back with what we have established which is a very well mannered and friendly forum which brings together a lot of informed and knowledgeable people for chat, banter and top tipping. How about as a mediated solution Attivo goes back to providing a basic service of where racing is and the going. Stick continues to put up his selections on the daily thread as everyone will see them anyway and the forum will be no less appreciative of a winner. We all just use language that is likely to create harmony rather than push another's buttons, it's really easy to have a dig at someone but only serves to create nonsense like this. If Attivo wishes to service a daily tipping thread he could maybe start a thread where each poster can post once a day with their top 2 or 3 bets. Those that like to follow a specific tipster or just like most want to have selections brought to our attention by trusted posters can look it up and do as they wish. This post would be a valuable resource. As I have mentioned I hope this does not inflame further as it really is not intended to, it's just to make a suggestion regarding restoring some harmony, recognising the issues but not blaming anyone as without doubt nothing has been done with ill intention.
Amen to that. A small sentimental selection from me today in the shape of Peter Fahey's Tiger Bay Lady in the 20:20 at Sligo this evening. A Flemensfirth mare out Princess Nina and it just so happens that I married my Princess, Nina, 16 years ago today. Who says romance is dead?
16 years ago? You must have been about 12? To create harmony on the board, I want to ask you all how you are? Is everyone well?
Probably right, Bluesky, would be better if Attivo went back to the straightforward DT, after his tabloid-like experiment. No forum is perfect, people get p****d off with each other sometimes, natural IMO. We all have our pet hates too, some as silly as the 'hate' itself. For example, I cannot stand booooming, so bloody daft and childish. Just be happy (and proud, why not) to tip the occasional winner, but to over-react is a no-no for me. But one has to live with these things, not serious at all. Yes, I am well Nass, even though I started a minor diet today to lose a stone, which ain't so terrible. No beer and bloody hungry. Hope you are keeping well yourself, and not feeling 'as rough as a badger's ass'.
Apologies to everyone I have pissed off with my rants but it was only meant as a bit of craic and fell terrible about causing all this discord on the thread! I agree 100% with Ron's sentiments, I regard myself as a Novice here and don't really know what you guy's want? I am putting up a Suggestions Thread for you to post your ideas. Please can we all draw a line in the sand & get back to the serious business of sharing winners. Good Luck
No harm in experimenting Attivo. As I said, I should have advised against it and didn't. Don't blame yourself. Morning Nass, I'm fine thanks. And you?
Late twenties Nass I am very well, thanks for asking. 1 week into a 3.5 week vacation from work. On Saturday we are heading off to Denmark for 2 weeks, a holiday which we planned during the stifling heat of early July. The cunning plan being to get away from the heat of the city and get some nice fresh sea air. Looks like we are going to be about 2 weeks too late though - big change in the weather from Sunday, where we are heading it's going to be 18 degrees and rainy. Should feel just like England
I wouldn't apologise Attivo Your daily thread might not of been to everyones liking, but you were doing something which frankly, no one else wanted to do! from me!! One to avoid today as it carries my hard earned 3.10 - Patrona Ciana - has to shoulder top weight but back to a mark of 73 which he won on at ayr, albeit over 7f. Plus its the start if the USPGA - looking forward to 4 quality days action
I am well Ron, just booked the next excursion in the Nass' racecourse holiday section. Something to look forward to and all that. I still need to work out if they are racing in the other location I am going to, but I will leave that until closer to the date. Oddy, Denmark? Isn't that one of the most expensive places for beverages? Even more expensive than Cheltenham Festival? Have a good couple of weeks off, and look out for tales of woe from blighty when we get gales on Sunday!
steuben last, last 4th of 7, last, last, 3rd last, last, 2nd last off for 653 days and currently odds on hejaz hejaz has beaten a total of TWO horses in his last 7 races last 5 times and 2nd last 2 times Both horses part of this supposed Curley gamble again... How do they get away with this lol?
Beats me Smokin ....... I suppose in legal terms any evidence of wrongdoing would be deemed circumstantial, but we are not in a court, so surely the BHA can act over such blatant cheating? They are a dictatorship after all. I wonder what prices they were before the bookies caught on?
Or how much of it was Bookmakers slashing the odds. BHA can withdraw horses for such things if they want to. Wasn't it Ann Stokell's horses who got pulled one day?
Certainly no need to apologise in my book Attivo, it's much appreciated that you take the time to start the thread. It's just about managing the sensitivities and egos within the forum so that it maintains the atmosphere that Ron established it in after 606 went down, believe me this is child's play to some of the nonsense that went on there. Your style of opening the DT just overstimulated some possibly too much. How about a daily thread for banter and news as the days racing unfolds and a forums tips post underneath it as mentioned in which all can post a couple up . From reading the posts that often appear from people who do not post but appreciate the tips they may enjoy a clear thread to simply see who is fancying what. If there are people who like to follow Stick or Cracker they will know they only need go there and find out their views. How about giving it a go tomorrow?
