QPR close in on West Ham midfielder Diame 7 Aug 2014 07:30:00 The Loftus Road outfit are ready to meet the Senegal international's £3.5 million release clause as Harry Redknapp continues his summer recruitment drive ahead of the new season QPR are closing in on West Ham midfielder Mohamed Diame, Goal has learned. The newly promoted Hoops are ready to meet the Senegalese midfielder’s £3.5 million release clause as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. Diame has impressed for the Hammers since joining on a free transfer from Wigan in 2012, making 68 Premier League appearances and scoring seven goals. The 27-year-old, however, has agitated for a move away from Upton Park in the past, saying it would be a "dream come true" to join a top-six club. Though Diame has attracted reported interest from the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool in the past, he will have to settle for a move to a club who spent the previous campaign in the Championship. West Ham could be prepared to cash in on a player who has just one year left on his current contract, and are already well stocked in midfield having signed Cheikhou Kouyate this summer. Diame would become QPR’s fifth signing of the summer, with the R's moving swiftly to secure deals for Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker, Jordon Mutch and Mauricio Isla.
If we sign Diame, it'll mean we have to let a player go Our CM's currently contracted are; Joey Barton Jordon Mutch Ale Faurlin Karl Henry Jermaine Jenas Frankie Sutherland You can add in Adel Taraabt in there if he plays the 'Sneijder' role in a midfield 3 if we're go for the 3-5-2 Obviously Jenas isn't in contention because he's injured and will most likely be released, but I'd say one of Sutherland or Henry will be moved on
Unless Remy signs another contract without a release clause for this window we will have to sign another striker, no if's buts or maybe's. Otherwise we run the unacceptable risk of losing him at window closing time and having to make do with what we had last season. Maybe there is a loan out there somewhere?
If we get another midfielder and start playing him, we'll have a totally new look midfield that has to.... wait for it..... GEL.
No doubt Diame would be a strong addition to our squad. But not sure how you fit: Joey, Ale, Mutch, Hoilett, and Diame into 3. Obviously we need cover, but the first choice 3 ? Joey and Mutch, ?? #3 ????
We need quality in depth as it is a long season. Players will be: - injured short-term - injured long term - suspended for yellow cards - suspended for red cards - ill - personal issues - lacking form - less suited to various formations - and possibly other reasons All of this should result in a natural rotation of the squad, hopefully without losing performance. There may even be competition for places?
Some folks support teams that wouldn't need a catch-all for all random happenings. I feel sorry for them. In a small way.
I didn't think Jenas was contracted, thought we were just helping him with his recovery ? I liked what I've seen of Diame. I'm not sure Karl will be ok in the EPL, Frankie is yet to be proven and do we really know if Ale will comes back 100%, QED we need another.
Matt you are correct. There is too much optimism at the moment and I am beginning to wonder what will go wrong and when. I am sure that "P" in QPR is for "paranoid".
