...have been spouted out as being the next centre-forward for our great club. Why??Connor did a great job for us at the end of last season. That being the case,he should be the man in place to start the season off as our number 9!If we start the season not scoring goals.Fletcher should be given his chance. Why do we not make sure of signing young Connor up for the future as a priority???Much cheaper than signing the likes of Moses and Etu!!
I think there are things that go on behind closed doors that we will never hear about - has he been offered a contract/what's his attitude etc. Four managers have not fancied him - yes he was good at the end of the season but has he reverted to type? we will probably only know when he leaves or signs
From what I've heard, him getting the contract he wants is dependant on the club moving on Danny Graham. The club has stupidly left Wickham with a strong bargaining position. Had he not scored those goals in the last game of the season he would have been another one we would have sold at a bargain basement price and probably gone on to flourish at another club with us scratching our heads. You have to wonder what the club was actually thinking of doing with Wickham? Weren't we going to sell him to palace for 5 mil' but palace wouldn't stump up the cash. If I were Wickham I'd probably be holding the club to ransom too! I really do hope the lad signs up as I think he is going to make a cracking centre forward. Will he be the fi bushed article next season, no can he score 10-15 goals. Most definitely
Agree with your comments,Tony!!Let's hope that Gus can persuade the powers that be that Connor must be kept-on!!
I'm not so sure Tony. I think Connor could be sold quite soon, and he will almost certainly be gone before the window closes. He probably won't go until a replacement (Borini?) is signed up, though we will still need to sign an out-and-out striker as well. Obviously, Borini won't be a like for like replacement, but signing Borini could at least allow Connor to move on whilst we are looking for another striker.
I think it's the club that's in the strongest position here and probably why we aren't surrendering to his demands. We could let him rot on the bench for a year and still get 6m from the tribunal.
It was great to see Connor finally do something positive at the end of last season and it played a big part in our survival. But we can't let this blind us to the fact that there is no evidence so far that he can be a consistent performer. Indeed, there has been quite a bit of evidence to the contrary so far. He's definitely worth hanging onto and a bit of a pay rise - but not stupid money. Overpaying players who are not worth it are the biggest things that hold clubs like ours back for years. Once you get an albatross on the wage bill, it roots around with all your future business. Once you get a few too many, you become a real chance of going down (e.g. us last season with Graham, Vaughan, Gardner, Cuellar, Cabral, Diakite, N'Diaye and probably others). With Connor we need to be very wary of this as the sample size is still very small with many different indicators. If he can't understand that he should be paid accordingly, then we need to consider the alternatives.
It doesn't look like borini is coming looking at his latest tweet which is pro liverpool and instead of posting I'll let everyone look themselves. Im glad because I think 14m was too much for him when I think about it we could get a better player for that such as welbeck or little pea or victor Moses who would probably be cheaper.
Exactly, a club like ours can't afford over half a dozen senior player out in the cold on a wage where we can't move them on. Every wage needs to count and we can't do that by handing big contracts to unproven players.
