Presumably the thought that somebody could have burned to death inside didn't occur to her whilst she was posing for her 'moment'. Another ****ing imbecile.

Fires are of course super dangerous but why associate them with death ?

It's a iconic venue picture on a beach

Ask Nines how many people snap away on their iPhones when he attends a fire ?

Fire is fire is it not why think death ?

I'll agree to differ with you DT. I see a fire and I first fear somebody may be inside or stand to lose their possessions or livelihood. Perhaps others see an opportunity to put a photo on Facebook or to create an artistic or iconic piece of art? Maybe there's an opportunity to make a few quid and sell their shots to one of the tabloids?

Just because some people snap away with their phones at the scene of fires doesn't make it any less bizarre in my opinion. Each to their own, I suppose.

Yes they do and it's happening more and more.

I can understand both points here. A young female student on a hot afternoon sunbathing on a beach drinking. She's not going to be thinking about whether or not anybody might be in danger of losing their life. A bit of pier pressure to have a selfie with a large fire as a backdrop would be too hard to resist for today's youth. As many have said in the article, it's perhaps 'insensitive.'

What I really find difficult to comprehend is that when you get a disaster, say a Heysel or a Hillsborough, why is it somebody's first instinct to reach for a camera and start taking pictures instead of trying to help? It beggars belief.

But I guess it's something to do with the fight or flight code that's has been embedded into our human genes. It's an interesting psychology that I find quite fascinating, that some instinctively run away from an incident while others run towards it to help.

Sad that we've become such a voyeuristic, sensationalised, opportunistic culture. This girl is just a sheep in that respect - the papers are littered with people either seeking fame or publicly exaggerating ordeals or outrage in the cause of self promotion.

It will just get worse while the masses keep lapping it up (certainly the media show no conscience on this front).

I can understand DT's point if it is that people these days are more likely to take pictures of what is possibly another person's tragedy simply because camera-phones are readily to hand. In some cases I can imagine that these pictures or perhaps video footage might even be useful to the authorities when subsequently trying to establish the cause etc.

I cannot excuse this particular imbecilic woman simply on the grounds that she'd likely had a few and it's what most young people would do. She is a probably another example of that ever-growing group of ignorant and apathetic hedonists for whom the most important things in life are who won Big Brother, what happened last night on Eastenders and what's Paris Hilton up to this week. Their views on the Ukraine, Gaza and the like are probably limited to what their particular herd believe if they have any opinion at all.

The same DT that recently told us of how he intervened into a violent domestic scene is also the same that would apparently commend this picture as 'good skills'. It doesn't make sense to me, but then little of what DT says these days does, I'm afraid.

Sorry if I am insensitive, but I see this as a nothing story, nothing to say, nothing to feel.
The only reason I am even writing this is because I am bored, I have a headache, and cannot do anything till someone else comes in...
    A girl took a photo..nothing.
Her "crime" was putting it on facebook.

Thousands of people took photos, thousands took videos, we have looked at them all.
There is a girl in this photo....nothing!

    Bigger issues in the world

    My point is purely this
It's a picture and because of where we are all in life it provokes opinion on a forum designed to do just that

    How should we act?
Well each of us arrive to today on different paths
Yes this a modern picture of modern times and yes IMO modern UK culture has gone to ****
It's a picture and a good one where your mind goes with that is fine
Statistically posters on here will be ****ing over the girl ... That's life
To have a trapped mind that brings back other tragic events in comparison feeding worry and fuelling each persons opinion is IMO a closed mind

Nines I fully expect has seen everything and I doubt if it gets any better yet I expect he does this each working day to do the job that involves saving lives and property because it's his path and I respect that

I would imagine he gets negative thoughts from frustrated lost people who get stuck in traffic having to pull over to let the engine through ? Only concerned about their own route to work ?

Most pull over as we all should do we all think of burning and death at that moment ... No we want to allow people to do their jobs

This picture is perfectly fine IMO but again should show everyone how far we have come in terms of culture

It won't be acceptable to all as we are all fed a diet that deliberately provokes a reaction via the press who now has to compete with personal broadcasts from each of us
We eat and react before moving onto the next event.

The problem as I see it we never take stock of what is happening Inbetween these events ... Why we all think we too clever

My neighbours in France were in the front line Tsumari and around them people died ... People they were with lost their baby . They saved many lives themselves and acted outside what they thought they had inside them as human brings. They explained it all to myself and tears were shed by all

I was shown a lot of it on video just last Saturday night

The difference it made to their lives ?

They stopped work forever and now live in France ... Never forgetting events but understanding them and want to do about the lessons they give

A girl took a good picture
She I doubt had nothing to do with the fire yet the event now has something to do with her ... Well for 5 minutes

    We are ants

Nice last words on the subject, DT. Beth is correct in that this is a nothing subject and the girl is an inconsequence. I apologise for prolonging the agony for other readers. I shall now sit in a darkened room with my closed mind of death and have a statistical **** over the young lady.

I went and visited Brighton Pier yesterday and can truly say if all are like that then they can't burn down quick enough.

As I thought, full of tacky fat-food stalls and over priced fair ground rides. Had absolutely nothing in common with the alledged Victorian spender from yesterday-year.........

Saying that the Mrs and Kids enjoyed it and the sea-life centre was good.
But the pier is definately not got me I'm afraid.

I agree. Sadly, the 'Victorian Spender' was obviously a consumer of more discerning taste than those of the modern 'Kiss Me Quick' generation. I recommend taking a selfie whilst the place burns.

On the ball Staines ... first thing the burning photo said to me was good ... Amusements are still massive money making cons and the general public should rejoice that this can now gone from my home town ... by all means we have the tech to rebuild Eastbourne better than the Victorians ... much better in fact and I hope when that happens then replace teh zombie spatter video games with traditional seaside material that would encapsulate that era. UK seaside towns lets be honest are far too tacky.

Sadly it is not just UK seaside towns.....Tramore is supposedly the premier seaside town in Ireland, but we very rarely go anywhere near the seafront during the summer due to the noise coming from the amusements and the rancid smell of chip fat etc coming out from the fast food joints.......It is a nice place when the summer finishes and everything closes down.......

Kelp and Sperm my friend ... a pair of breasts caught in time ... enjoy she can't complain ... the downside of a selfie?. They be soft and pert now frozen in time now but i expect her life will change shortly and before she knows it distorted, mis-shapen and like everything effected by gravity. She herself may look at the picture in the future and i bet her first though will be look at my tits back then. Interesting experiment would be make her return there each each year for a time lapse timeline ... The pier maybe rebuilt but the pair will of course change for the better or the worse? ... Kelp and sperm either way we can only win

I was coming from a place where I am rejoicing in its burning because of what it represented although i will miss the wonderful chance of the Bingo. People spending on average £20 a visit trying to grab a slippery iPod with a chrome claw that has the grip of three sedated eels cocks should also rejoice but sober up that it will be them who gets taxed long term to rebuild the monument of evil doom.
