    I know I shouldn't rise, but...

As opposed to this board, where there were 8 posts on the match thread during the game and none after, with none being from Man U fans? :emoticon-0114-dull: And are you really complaining about Liverpool fans going to bed at 3 in the morning after a friendly?

    Few thoughts...

    - Referee was shocking
    - Rooney celebrating was a bit embarrassing + was unsporting for the non-goal incident - no need in a friendly.
    - Both teams were pretty poor
    - Score flattered United
    - Two terrific finishes regardless (Rooney + Lingaard (sp))
    - Sterling should've had two penalties
    - Herrera has a nice weight of pass but a 33yr old Gerrard bullied him most of the game and was hindered by verrrry tetchy officiating (see point 1)
    - Martin Kelly needs to go far away from Anfield unfortunately
    - I stayed up to 4 odd for that ****e

Guess the force wasn't with you Master Yoda, and with all the crap of your summing up the match, its hardly surprising. Tad biased maybe?

Referee was indeed shocking but for both teams. When you lose it can't always be the refs fault especially when you take into account the help you had from the officials last season!

Have another look at Rooney's "celebration" of the disallowed goal.

Droll... will gladly reply on whatever point you desire if you can reply properly :)

He was shocking for both teams... I didn't specify a team! Don't assume things!

He gave a big smirk and walked off did he not? I was referring to his celebration for his first goal however. Compare it to Gerrard's.

Actually... if you look at our forum on our discussion- a great deal of criticism of the ref happened whilst we were winning. That's when the ref was being his worst.

My theory- after giving us the penalty he wanted to "even things up". A lot of refs do that... after giving a major decision to one team they feel they have to give a bunch of decisions to the other team so people won't think they're biased.

If it's a penalty- it's a penalty... no reason to "even it up".
    If it's not a penalty- it's not a penalty... don't give it.

"Evening" things up is never a good idea. Prior to the penalty- the ref was fine. Between the penalty and your second goal he was giving every call to United. After your second goal- the ref went back to being fine. If you read the match thread- you'll see that most people complaining about the ref was complaining about him whilst we were ahead.

Clutching at straws guys. You were undone to all three goals in open play by some slick passing and movement. Add to that some downright amateurish defending, and United stroked the ball home on each occasion with ease. Form what I have seen, the referee had no involvement in the goals except to confirm they were legitimate goals

Sounds like a lot of whining and excuses.

and as for Stevie me, the reason he didn't celibrate was that without the sewer rat, he couldn't see any one else scoring for his team. The lack of celebration was knowing that he had woken up the beast, which was proven by the final score. Bet he didn't find a camera to kiss either

Recorded the game last night, just finished watching it. Not impressed with the defence, they were up against **** and still looked dodgy ( have been very impressed with Tyler Blakett on this tour though). So many players last night couldn`t make a simple pass for some reason (Fletcher and Evans in particular). On the plus side, Young looks like he has been replaced by a good clone, Nani looks like he is willing to put effort in and Herrera looks to have a bit of cynical steel about him as well as his obvious class when in control of the ball.
Overall i think we have very good strength in depth throughout the team once we get people like Carrick, Raphael and Van Persie back (perhaps a little too much depth in attacking mid). We are good to go for the season but a top class centre half would be most appreciated.

give them chance to adopt LVG's system Diego, and they will be fine. And if our defence was dodgy, it doesn't say much for the Brenda brigade.

Agreed, I was being sarcastic. Games between us will always have a bit more edge even in a friendly. It's going to be an interesting season for both our clubs can you get back in the top 4 and can we stay in the top 4. If we're both up there then the games between us will be crackers.

Haha there's no point in trying to 'debate' on this board sometimes.

But it's nice that we're the 'first scalp' considering you've beaten Madrid... If Christian thinks we're bigger and better who are we to argue :)
