Is the latest rumour. If Eto and Borini come in, I wouldnt be too fussed about this as long as we get decent money for him.
Don't see Eto'o coming personally and would be looking to put Borini out wide, don't see him as an out and out goalscorer. If Connor or Fletch leave I think we'll need someone in up top.
Think that, maybe £7m would be the most we could possibly hope for regardless of what we paid. Fletcher could well have a decent season with us yet, has the ability.
sell him for what we paid for 12million or **** off i'm sick of us buying for a lot of money and selling cheap,he still has a few years left on his contract
As it's West Ham, ran by ****ing morons and around is in the league, at least £10 million. Given that they just signed Valencia (who will flop, I'll stake my reputation on it...), I see no legs in this. Fletch will have a decent season here.
Agreed. Room on the wage bill can be freed up by dumping costly mistakes like Danny graham and altidore
give him time to prove his fitness and that he still has it in his locker. he is a class finisher when he gets chances and he's got his head screwed on. some of the goals he has scored for us show that he has a class touch and shouldnt be written off on the back of a injury laden season
If Gus is only playing one up front, then it needs to be someone who can hold the ball.....more importantly it needs to be someone who can score consistently. Given the lack of goals in our pre-season games, i'm not convinced we've got the right men to do that.
This so called rumour has already been confirmed as a load of bollocks anyway. The so called tweet came from a disgruntled Hammers fan and has already been dissmissed by the club, its not even worth disscussing !!!
GUS POYET has total confidence that striker Steven Fletcher can rediscover the form from his first season at Sunderland. Fletcher endured a miserable campaign last year after a succession of injuries affected his performances and restricted him to just three goals. That was a stark contrast to the Scotland international’s maiden season at the Stadium of Light, when he netted 11 times after joining in a £12million move from relegated Wolves. Fletcher returned to training a week ahead of schedule earlier this summer after missing the final two months of last season with an ankle problem and he has come through Sunderland’s pre-season programme unscathed. Head coach Poyet is now eager to see Fletcher in competitive action, but has every faith in the 27-year-old’s predatory abilities. When asked whether Fletcher could return to form, Poyet told the Echo: “No doubt. “He’s delighted. That’s a big thing for a manager to have a player who is so happy at being fit and able to train every day. “I am really looking forward to seeing Fletch on the pitch when the season starts.” Fletcher or fellow striker Connor Wickham are likely to lead the line for Sunderland’s Premier League opener at West Brom on Saturday week, with Jozy Altidore still making his way back from the hamstring injury which brought a premature end to his World Cup. Altidore is due to make his first appearance of pre-season in Thursday night’s friendly against Real Betis, yet is unlikely to be fully fit to face the Baggies. Wickham’s place in Poyet’s plans has been thrown into doubt after the Sunderland manager said last week that the England Under-21, who is in the final 12 months of his Black Cats contract, needed to sign a new deal or be sold. Sunderland have been holding talks with Wickham’s agent throughout the summer after his five goals at the end of last season proved crucial towards the club remaining in the Premier League. But the 21-year-old’s father hit back at Poyet’s ultimatum on social media over the weekend. Sources close to Wickham have also indicated that while contract talks have been held, Sunderland are yet to make a formal offer.
After the McCartny disaster (gifted to West Ham for free on our relegation and then bought back for millions) and the Ferdinand debacle (8 million), we're banned from doing business with West Ham. Selling Fletcher for 6 million would be foolish. Especially when he's the best striker we have on our books as at today.
