We could not have asked for a harder game to open the season with and i think Man utd will over power the premiership this season and will win it with a good margin of 10 points, they are looking very strong and i cant see anyone beating them at old trafford, For us then we must shut up shop and limit the damage but at least we will have got them out of the way early.....
I would love to agree with that but neither will happen, just give me a top 3 finish with Spurs 4th and Arsenal/Liverpool 5th and 6th
Too early to make any predictions with any certainty like that Dai - we don't know the final squads or what is going to happen in the January transfer window. Man U are likely to be a more formidable force than they were last year - I don't think there can be any doubt about that. We lost 4-1 and 2-0 last year even when we played reasonably well in both games. TBH, I will be happy with a good performance up in OT. We could scare them - but I think they'll be so **** scared of Van Gaal they'll be too afraid to come off the pitch if they haven't won!!
how can anyone say they will win the league, let alone by 10 points with the defence they have. its so bereft of any quality or leadership, probably their worst defence of the past 20 years. as it stands they'd probably line up de gea rafael smalling evans shaw any half decent attack will run rings through that. they look good going forwards and will beat a few teams 4-0, but they will not win the league, or get close IMO.
Utd will score goals but I can see them shipping a few too - I stick with my previous prediction of them coming in 3rd behind Chelsea and Man City, I am just looking for a solid performance in our opening game and maybe we can put a chance or two away,
I can see them beating us by 2 or 3 goals. I hope it's not a slaughter as it will really damage confidence right at the start of the season.
Dai is basing his judgement on one friendly game with some of RM players out including Ronaldo, and while Manu look like they pass the ball better than last season, we have nothing to fear in my view if we stick to our own game, at least we can match them to some extent up front for fire power, and dare I say more than match them on the wings. I'm sure our new arrivals will want to make an impression at OT, so bring it on, we love to upset the status quo!....
Hopefully it will take them a few games to get up to speed and I'd rather be playing them now than later. If Bony, Bafi and Montero find some form, prompted by Siggy, we could take advantage of United's suspect defence and get something. Would be delighted with a draw but hope we don't play for a point because we're no good at doing that.
A very tough opening game , lots of quality on United but ... its football ...glad we have them first, especially with Van Persie out
If they're lousy with 4, why would they be any better with 3. And, Bony is going to tie up two of them from time to time anyway.
If you really think that you'd better put some money on it. You can get 5-1 on Man U winning the league. So most people think they won't. I think they'll be lucky to finish top 4.
I disagree with the concept that it's better to play any team early in the season as it "may take them a few games to get going". If that holds true, then the same should apply to us shouldn't it ? The pressure will be on Man United though - First match under new manager, at home etc but it's Manchester United we are talking about here - they always have that pressure to win on their shoulders. We've got quite a few new players - who also haven't spent a great deal of time playing together during these pre-season friendlies so far, so I worry more about us looking like strangers than any perceived deficiency they may have. As for us just "playing our game" - I'm not sure what our game will be this season - just have to wait and see I guess.
