Henderson number 1; Pope number 30; Phillips 13. Gomez 3, Wilson 2, Solly 20. Harriott up to 11, Church down to 18. Reza still 8; no number 9.
Do you think from the goalkeepers numbers, pope will head out on loan (presumably with a recall) whilst pope will play understudy?
Just because the Roman Catholic Church now has two popes for the first time since 1417, doesn't mean we have to do the same. It is beginning to look as if neither Pope nor Phillips are up to more than the odd match in the Championship. The management do not think Pope is, and the rest of us know Phillips isn't. That means if Henderson is out for more than, say, three matches, we will have to borrow a keeper. Easily done. Many clubs are happy to give a good reserve keeper a short loan out to get games, especially if they have a call-back clause.
I have a hangover meant for two men, so I hope I can be forgiven this time I meant does this mean pope goes, Phillips stays? Or is there no relevance what so ever?
Hope not. Phillips needs to go out on loan to get some games in. And Pope needs to play..............for us.
By the looks of it the only one of our promising youth who is going to start is Gomez, even cousins is a doubt going by preseason. We'll have less youth on the pitch then last season despite them being the best players (last season) and having a new manger who is all about the youth coming through Also we must be expecting another striker if 9 is free???
Loads of CAFC fans have been retweeting French journalists about Delort. He looks more the part than the rest of out strikers, but again we have an unknown quantity and he'll need to hit the ground running. That said, I'm more confident of him than Ventokele, tuducen and the others we already had at our disposal.
That's right, actions speak louder than words. Riga was successfully fielding a team which contained 5 or 6 Academy products, but without making a fuss about it. Bobb, on the other hand, is forever droning on about the "young guns", but has been buying players who won't be happy to sit on the bench behind the "young guns" in the pecking order. I was particularly looking forward to seeing Pope in goal.
agree - i thought this would be the year pope got a chance. especially after signing a longer term deal.
You never know, all these unknown players might actually click (I don't see it myself, but would love to be proved wrong) I'm just disappointed after all the talk of bringing the youth through, which the last 2 managers had been doing with various levels of success, was just talk. Maybe Pope wasn't up to scratch but I can't help feeling he would have done a decent job for us. Maybe I'm being too negative but I'm starting to feel it would have been better for us to go down, we'd have lost Poyet regardless and a good chunk of our youth would have got game time. In regards to the striker rumor I hope the French guy is as good as the last Frenchman we had up front, we need another one of them!
