Squad depth is important but having a strong first eleven is at least as important. Having a couple of players that can turn nothing into something is more important though.
First few months? He'll only miss 3 or 4 games, then the International break. Also, We've only got a net spend of about £14m at the moment. Moreno for £20m will make that £34m. We've only sold one player so far so would think that someone else might be off (Assaidi, Agger, Lucas, Borini?) to bring that back down. £60m plus player sales was always the amount to spend, so in theory another £25m plus what ever else we can get from sales. should be enough to buy another forward to challenge for the first team.
Ive been worried about Dans brittle hamstrings since he missed several games last season. This season I can see him missing about a third of league games. We have inadequate depth if we are going for cup and CL as well. Last season we were lucky that Suarez didnt miss a game through injury. I did suggest that maybe we play Sterling as a striker. His pre season has been excellent and bring on Ibe to cover his position. Remy with or without the heart condition at £8m was well worth the risk. Bony at £20m possibly. Proven in Prem League but a lot of money for a stop gap until Origi becomes available. Ballotelli.....goal scoring yes, risk of damage to club reputation. ....no thanks.
Sturridge is turning more and more into glass, he had niggling to mildly serious problems last season, now this. My worry is that without Suarez his head will drop too. Where are we going to create goals this season and who is going to score them. Our finishing from midfield last season wasn't great, Lambert looks average to woeful so far - plus there's no way this guy should be our lead striker (if he is, if Sturridge's injuries continue and we don't sign a top quality finisher) then our board and transfer team need shooting, pardon the pun. It's painfully obvious how short we are up top now. Lallana's going to miss the start of the season - if he was a player bought to make up the attacking deficit it's not the best start. I still look at our frontline and attacking mids and wonder where these goals are going to come from... it's been said, buying for the future is fine but we've got a big season to play and us fans want the team to win now. We've simply got to get some more options in this window who are now players, who can come immediately into the first team and make the difference. Both in attack and defence.
Sure we were saying last season that our striking options were thin. Totally agree with previous comments and also worried Studge will not perform without Suarez. We need a quality striker now and also question loaning Origi back. We need him in the squad now too.
I'm not. Judging by the fact he's 28? And he'd cost £40m and be on wages around £120k (probably more given how much he's earning at PSG). Also, looked very poor against Chelsea when they played in the CL last year, as well as poor in the WC.
I'd just like to add..... If the goal is be just good enough fine buy crap... If the goal is to win the cl or title but karim benzema Seriously guys buy the best then worry about it
That we pulled out of the Remy deal with shoddy reason may suggest: 1) that BR doesn't think he really needs another striker OR 2) that BR goes for the "class striker" option. If 1 is the case, I can see Sterling as Suarez replacement, and thus a sufficient 4 striker options in the squad: the new SAS, Lambert and Borini (who doesn't want to leave). If 2 is the case, it could be that Rodgers is sniffing down the Balotelli/Shaqiri/Lavezzi/Huntelaar route
or 3) He was told he couldn't bring in another striker until he got Borini off the wage bill. It seems odd that Remy's all but done deal, died on it's arse as soon as Borini's move to Sunderland collapsed. Don't forget that under the new EPL FFP rules, you can only increase your wage bill by £4m per year - plus any incremental sponsorship revenues.
The Arsenal model As you say Milk it's a question of balance. Padding the squad is all well and good but if we aren't competing for the big trophies the talent we develop will just up and leave to teams that are. For me it's essential that we get more experience in around the young talent and that's experience at the top level not just older players like Lambert.
Brendans cleared a few of these up for you. Has stated in press conference that we are looking for another striker. Has stated it won't be balotelli.
