"Reading" through the Trencin programme, I obviously, and rather disappointingly, noticed we were referred to as "Hull City Tigers". It got me wondering where we are actually known as "Hull City AFC". Our playing name registered with the FA is "Hull City". Our business name is "Hull City Tigers". Yet UEFA referred to as "Hull City AFC". Basically I've no idea what's going on, without getting bogged down in another name change debate, what is our current name and where does Hull City AFC get used?
We were registered with the FA in 1904 as Hull City AFC and that remains our full playing name. The FA don't use FC or AFC normally(it's not even applied to the FA Cup if you win it), but it is used for European competitions, so when we win the Champions League next season, it will have Hull City AFC engraved on it.
I have seen some club corporate literature given to those flying to Slovakia with the club. It refers to 'Hull City' and 'HCFC'.
Confusingly, club officials quite proudly state that it either hasn't been AFC for several years or never was, depending on which one you speak to.
It was on the club badge until a month ago, it was the company name and web domain until August 2013, so it's rather difficult for anyone to claim it hasn't been used for years.
We must be the only team in professional football who have owners that find the club name so embarrassing that they'd do anything, no matter how petty, not to use it.
Is there any truth in the nameless badge thing that it had to be submitted before the decision was made hence the lack of a name?
Not up to date on das latest but I thought, from previous reading, we were entering a period of détente?
Agreed, but for some reason they do. I most recently heard it from James Mooney at the FWG meeting. That's what the club said at the recent meeting, yes. But it was questioned by a guy who has experience of working with sports manufacturers. Can't remember the details but the guy wasn't convinced.
We're in the Europa League this season, my suggestion that we were going to go on to win the Champions League next season was obviously not a serious one.
It also is worth making the point that when the fixtures came out the club were putting Hull City Tigers as the headline. They were pretty soon told to get it changed to HULL CITY.
