Your opinion on some ideas I want to put forward to the club

Fair enough. But my point is that things seem to have gone stale over the last few years in terms of songs. I don't think you can blame the team's performances because I've heard better singing in other dark times in the past. I just want to find a way to spruce things up a bit. Really, the club should be thinking about this. Maybe they are but have no ideas.

Also, I don't think it would be so bad if the songs were made by getting the fans to have all the input. Yes, it wouldn't be spur of the moment but not much is coming out from the stands as it is. Also, having this kind of competition wouldn't stop people spontaneously making songs anyway. It would just make an injection of a few new songs to fuel the fire... maybe...?

I like the spontaneous chants - and sometimes it's in response - so something thought up away from the match might not be as good.

The best ones in my opinion are those that are cutting [albeit that they are sometimes offensive] - like the Barmy Army's version of Waltzing Matilda.

I remember going to the first match of the season after the 7 July London terror attacks and hearing the opposition fans starting up a 'town full of bombers' chant which was soon drowned out by a chant of 'shut your mouth unless you've got any answers'....

Easy to ridicule this kind of thing but it is strange that we have never had a unique trademark song. It wasn't so unusual in the past when only the likes of Liverpool and Birmingham had stand out signature tunes but these days everyone seems to have adopted a Delilah or a Blue Moon, etc. I think TF would love the thought of a club song but I'm not convinced this type of thing can come from 'above'. But perhaps I'm wrong and in a world of social media this kind of thing can be voted on...

A variation on London Calling for me.

Yes but my point is that it's not a case of one or the other. They can't exactly ban spontaneous chanting/singing. I'm saying that we could pen a few songs to inject some new life into things and maybe even those songs might inspire a few new, spontaneous ones.

Love pigbag and wouldn't want it changed.

And I really don't want club resources channeled into anything resembling QPR Does X Factor. Waste of their time, and an admission that we can't come up with stuff on our own. I only really need to offer up "Ooh Bobby Zamora" as proof....

Good post and a great point AAAAAGH.

I feel the same as you and have thought about this for the past few years. Although I agree with London Calling and Pig Bag etc and other upbeat rock based rhythms to get the crowd going, I feel that we need an anthem of our own. Something that is resonant and haunting that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you sing or hear it. Something slightly less clichéd or vacuous in relation to the usual football songs we get to hear in and around football grounds.

What I had in mind was something with a very simple repetitive riff consisting of a couple of revolving bars of music, with a very simple lyric that would be very easy for everyone to join in and sing along to. It also had to be difficult for any other club to replicate, so we would need to use our acronym to prevent this from happening.

The closest I've heard as to anything like this is when Liverpool sing.. ''Liverpool, Liverpool.''

    http://fanchants.co.uk/football-songs/liverpool-chants/liverpool/

I tried to come up with something fitting on my keyboard. But as much as I tried I repeatedly came up with what was known as Tara's theme. You would probably know it better as the theme tune to Gone with the Wind or the Oscars music which is used at the awards ceremony.

I may be well wide of the mark here and possibly out of step with most of our fans opinions, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway. It's only us on here after all. So here it is until I can come up with something better if my limited musical ability allows... Tara's theme.

The main part of the riff comes in at 18 seconds, at which point I thought the song and the lyric would be sung and be called 'Oh QPR.' This would be sung twice and as the riff drops a tone it would then become ' Oh Queens Park Rangers.' and then repeat ad nauseum.

It does seem a bit weird actually typing this out and I just nearly deleted it, but hey.. Chuff it! I'm throwing it out there and to hell with what anyone else thinks. I like it. Give it a go, it might well grow on you in a few days. Imagine a packed Loftus Road singing it?

The piece below would obviously drop an octave when you have a few thousand male voices singing it, so it would not be quite so lame as it may first appear.

The bit I'm talking about starts at 18 seconds.

    ''Oh QPR''
    ''Oh QPR''
    ''Oh Queens Park Rangers''
    ''Oh QPR.''

It could well work. If a lot of people backed it, it would catch on. It's got that almost over the top dramatic and pride that I think people would actually like to sing.

I propose the repeated chant at the end of the T Rex classic Hot Love but with the obvious twist
    La la la la QPR
    La la la la QPR
    La la la la QPR
    La la la la QPR
    Oh, we are London's heros
    ...
Repeat ad nauseum as per the original song.

Not only does this match the criteria that Nines sets out but it was written by Marc Bolan, a classic London bohemian who was often seen around West London music haunts as he forged his career before dying tragically in a car crash on Barnes Common.
