I thought the idea of pre season friendlies was to get match practice and blend a team for the opening fixture of the season. In this regard tonight's game is a complete waste of time.

With back to back games you are going to split the squad in some way. This is a good way to test and appraise those that look good in training from those that can do in a match. How many internationals and Under-X internationals do we have on the field.
