    That list doesn't include the players we sold;

    Joe Allen - £15m
    Scott Sinclair - £6.2m
    and later in the season...
    Danny Graham - £5m
    Total = £26.2m

He also moved on; Gower, Dobbie, Bessone, Orlandi, Jamie Proctor and Scott Donnelly....which contributed to another important factor, as Norway rightly points out, we spent less on wages than virtually every other club in the division (with maybe the exception of Reading).

So yeah, he achieved a lot with "hardly no money at all".

    Overall picture for Laudrup's 1st season is;
Bought - £16.55m (and some sizeable signing on fees for the "free" signings...Tiendalli and Canas [who was really a signing for the following season]....probably take it up to Taff's £17.9m)
    Sold - £26.2m
Balance = about £8-10m in the black

Southampton's Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin 'not for sale'

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and striker Jay Rodriguez will not be sold this summer, according to chairman Ralph Krueger.

The pair have been linked with moves to Tottenham, now managed by ex-Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Southampton have already sold five players this summer.

"Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin will be in our line-up as we move into next season," Krueger told BBC Radio Solent. "They will not be sold."

Schneiderlin later wrote on Twitter: "6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!"

Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers have all left the club this summer, despite Krueger previously saying Saints would not sell their key players.

He admitted to meeting officials from Tottenham last week, but said it was unrelated to the potential departures of Rodriguez, 25, and France international Schneiderlin, 24.

Rodriguez, who has been at St Mary's since joining from hometown club Burnley in 2012 for a fee of about £7m, is currently sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Schneiderlin joined Southampton from Strasbourg in 2008 and played a key role in their rise from League One to the top flight.

The midfielder played for France at this summer's World Cup in Brazil and has attracted interest from Arsenal, but is understood to favour a move to Spurs.

"We see them as a part of our core group of players," added Krueger. "Those stories being passed around are quite simply false.

"I did meet Spurs officials in Toronto but not a word was exchanged about players of Southampton."

Krueger denied that owner Katharina Liebherr was looking to sell the club or recoup her family's investment, adding that the money they have received for the five players leaving St Mary's will be invested back into the squad.

Southampton's chairman also said that new manager Ronald Koeman was "100% involved in every single decision we are making" and apologised to supporters for a lack of communication over the past few weeks.

"We did not put any players up for sale," he added. "To get the best deal we needed to stay silent. It was not in our style to leak things out."

He accused the departed players of wanting to take a "shortcut to Champions League football" and said the club are close to adding to their squad, having already signed Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle this summer.

"Those players were wanting to have it immediately," he said. "Once you end up with a group with that type of attitude you need to do what is best for the club. We did not make any decision on financial grounds."

The former NHL ice hockey chief also said that Southampton's executive director Les Reed was doing an "outstanding job", despite criticism from supporters.

"I do not know if there are many other people that work with so much character and integrity on a daily basis," he said. "He embodies the type of club we want to be.

"He does nothing but tell the truth. If people want to hear fairytales they are at the wrong club.

"We tell the truth and Les Reed has done an outstanding job in getting us the best deals for the players leaving the club, as he is getting the best possible deals for targets coming into the club."

    - Former Southampton Manager - Dave Merrington
"It's as if they are trying to dismantle the Nicola Cortese and Mauricio Pochettino era with a fire sale of players when in actual fact the next step should have been to build on that excellent squad for Europe. Now I think the club is going backwards."

    Regarding Southampton,
I don't know what the truth is but one thing I'm sure of is that the Yank isn't telling the truth.

Have Southampton really had a rough deal? They were in League 1 with huge financioal problems, yet managed to navigate themselves back to the Premiership, albeit still with financial problems.

Many of their players are at the peak of their value, so their Board have decided to sell in a bid in order to give them financial and business security.

A big risk? Yes. But they'll be in the Premiership, still have a stream of money coming into the Club, and still have a reasonable squad. No one likes their Club selling good players - but would they prefer to be penniless back in League One?

    Doesn't add up does it?

Cortese leaves and the club issue a statement concerning the level of debt hampering the business.
They say they have a plan to deal with this but don't need to sell players.
Then they do sell 5 players for approx. £95m.
Then the Yank comes out and says there's no way we'll sell Schneiderlin and Rodriguez, and we didn't need to sell the others either....they just left because they wanted Champions League now (implying that Southampton will get CL football one day <laugh> ).
Then there's Schneiderlin's tweet which seems to express dissatisfaction with what the guy said....doesn't add up.

I agree with PGF actually. Saints fans haven't had such a bad deal.
If Koeman can keep them up they will have a Premier league club on a sound financial footing. New stadium, new training ground and a top class youth team...much better than they were.

As PGF says they're getting top value from players (some they signed in League 1).

No way is Michu worth £16 million on last season. £10 million tops.
And Pablo isn't worth more than the £5 million we paid for him.

It was Ben at 4.8 I was more surprised at.

All figures are estimates as none of us know I have based my fees on what I have seen and what I think are realistic guesses.
Vorm 4.5 million quoted in paper
Ben 8-10 million as quoted in papers.
Pozuelo 500,000 same as we paid for him
    Gwion Edwards 500,000 (guess)
    Michu 1,000,000 loan fee (guess)
If Michu goes permanently probably 6-7 million
Canas we'll be lucky to get £1 million remembering we had him on a free
Hernandez given his age and injury problems maybe £3 million.

I think this would be far more realistic than £40 million.

    Lovren - Sold - £20m
    Chambers - Sold - £16m
    Schneiderlin - Linked - £20m+
    Lallana - Sold - £25m
    Rodriguez - Linked - £20m+
    Lambert - Sold - £4m

    Swansea's player's linked with/sold to CL clubs;

    Allen - Sold - £15m
    Sinclair - Sold - £6m
    Vorm - Sold - £2.5-4.5m
Ben Davies - Sold - £8m (in my eyes at least, as that was the highest bid for Siggy at the time)

Southampton: Koeman defiant on Morgan Schneiderlin future

'Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has reiterated Morgan Schneiderlin will not be leaving the club and has warned the midfielder of his conduct following his midweek outburst on Twitter.

Schneiderlin, 24, has been linked to Tottenham but Saints chairman Ralph Krueger has said he is not for sale.

The Frenchman later wrote on Twitter: "6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!"

Koeman said: "He is a player of Southampton and will continue to be."

Southampton have already sold five players this summer but Krueger told BBC Radio Solent on Wednesday that Schneiderlin and injured forward Jay Rodriguez would not be leaving St Mary's.

Koeman has warned the midfielder of his future conduct following his comments on social medal and added he expected him to return to the side for the pre-season game against Bayer Leverkusen on 9 August.

"He is OK, he will play next week," Koeman told BBC Radio Solent.

"I spoke with him about that tweet. Always you have to keep that type of information inside and we spoke about that and his situation."

Koeman also said the club were close to signing three new players as they look to add to new recruits Dusan Tadic, Graziano Pelle and Ryan Bertrand.

"We hope to do that this weekend and then we have two weeks still to prepare for the Liverpool game," he added.

The Dutchman hinted that club record-signing Dani Osvaldo could be involved in a swap deal for Inter Milan's Saphir Taider.

"We are looking for the best for Osvaldo and the best for the club," he said.

"Taider brings quality and we need that. We need competition in the squad as well and that will be good."

Where do you get that we Saints have financial problems? The club's accounts showed a net loss of a whole £7.1mn last year, we still owe money on transfer fees (£27mn outstanding) and and on the new training ground (£30mn outstanding), but none of that has to be paid in a single lump sum any more than I have to pay my mortgage off in a lump sum.
Our financial situation before the £90mn+ of player sales: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26813363
