Just reading about Andy Murray getting into the quaters and it got me thinking about British sport and the general lack of success world wide. The U21 didn't make it, the big boys always struggle or choke, cricket, rugby, F1 and other sports; we're not world beaters. Now I know we haven't done too bad over the past years with some of the sports mentioned, and others which I probably don't know about, but is it a media thing which makes the players feel pressured, and if so should they be able to cope being professionals and the like? I was just wondering what others think, and are we that bad, or are we OK and just want to dominate the world?
The media are ****e in this country quick to judge when we get beat with quotes like Well beaten We are just not good enough Never giving them credit for getting to the final When we do win its always Well its not the same Australia of the past. The opposition did,nt play well The opposition are going through a period of transision I hate the media with a passion and this also rubs off onto the spectators Anyone getting to a final or doing well should be applauded as long as they give 100% They are full of ****e make things up and have me on ****ing edge every transfer window
I hate wimbledon, Everyone comes out and tries plays tennis inc. A Murray. This year it's gonna be our our year, Bollocks it's gonna be Tim Henmans years.
I agree Mitch, the media in this country are full of thier own ****e, but I am wondering if we have ever been good, or as FFH said, do we live in our own little bubble and think we are better than we are? In football we havent' won anything for a long long time, and still think we are good, or do we?
Re: football. imo we have some **** hot footballers, both young & old, its about time we told the coaches to eff off and let the lads express themselves with freedom. Not your in that zone, you stay there, you mark him. Put 11 intelligent (thats the hard bit) footballers on the pitch and tell them to get on with it. Re: the media, most are w*nkers, bit like our MP's, all for themselves.
I'd have to pull you up on the f1 bit, as for a country of our size the amount of champions we've had is staggering (including 2 current). Problem we have is that Brits seem to love making people heroes then shooting the, down, the written press is just an extension of the man on the street. Soon as 1 person says someone's got summat, 10 will pop up to rip holes in them. It's the British way, sadly.
