Lees is on £10k a week according to @PhilHay so we got something like £800k-£1m for 2 years of his contract.
Lees nowhere near £10k a week ... maybe with appearance fees, clean sheet bonus, win bonus, draw bonus, goal bonus, league position bonus ... but the bonuses do not get paid up as they are performance related and dependent on being selected so its only his basic wage that gets paid off ... my understanding is Lees was on around £3.5k p/week basic which sounds about right ... also Wednesday won't pay anywhere near £500k never mind higher for a player they wanted on a free
Apologies, my maths wrong, did per month instead of per week ... around £360k received for Lees ... but remember the money goes to the player as we have to pay him off so in effect we get nothing, even if it is £1m
Where have you got £3,500 from ?Don't think any 1st team regulars would be on that, don't forget we had a near £20 million wage bill.
If Morison is on £20k a week Lees could easily be on £10k a basic, £3.5k a week is nowhere near what he is on.
No it doesn't,we've sold him,he gets a 5% cut of transfer same as every other player sold that doesn't ask to leave.
I guess with £11m sitting in the bank from the Ross sale and all the other dosh Cellino has it doesn't really matter if it was free or £100k, the pennies are not starting to matter as much now we are getting back on an even keel. I am still surprised we let him go without a replacement or two lined up, we have an abundance of central midfielders and of course Hunt and Morison who should be shown the door and Kenny.
Why do we have to pay him off? He's being sold & he is going direct to another club. We're not "cancelling his contract by mutual concent leaving him free to pursue other options".
I don't believe we paid him off, Sheff W said yesterday they are getting him on a free. Today it has changed to undisclosed which could still be free for all we know. My guess is that is it is free but a sell on clause giving us something if they decide to cash in later on him.
"The South Yorkshire club are understood to have met the cost of paying up the final two years of Lees’ contract at Elland Road." http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....nited-lees-completes-wednesday-move-1-6759837
I can't see how that works, so they are saying Lee's receives two years wages paid for by Wednesday and then on top of that the salary he has agreed with Wednesday? Doesn't sound right to me, since when do you have to pay the remainder of a players contract when you sell them? If they agree personal terms and agree to leave because you don't want them any longer surely you do not pay them their outstanding contract balance as well as them receiving a new wage from their new club?
He gets his contract paid in full by us as we broke his contract. We charged the wendies the amount we had to pay him. It's why players never hand in transfer requests anymore. If they do they don't get paid out.
I always thought they avoided handing in a request because their contract had something along the lines of they would receive 10% of the sale price, never realised that, I knew they received more not handing one in but not the total outstanding amount on their contract. Good job Ross handed in a request.
That's not how it works only if Leeds told him they were terminating his contract do we have to pay him out.As long as he didn't refuse to go and we terminated his contract he gets 5% and that's it. Bale never put a transfer request in writing when he moved to Real.
Don't mind that Lees has moved on. He deserved his chance in the first team and the lad is Leeds through and through - we all wanted him to succeed, but unfortunately; it didn't quite work out. He can look back at some good games at Leeds and be relatively proud - I wish him all the best in the future and if he can work on some aspects of his game he could become a great player. I think without the pressure of playing at Leeds he will probably flourish at Wednesday.
That is what I always thought. If Lee's was on a conservative 8k a week Wednesday would have to find £830,000 no way is he worth that much, worse still if he was on £10k a week, that's over a million quid. Still concerns me a little that Lee's has been allowed to leave in a position which we are weak in yet White, Norris, Tonge, Hunt and Morison are all still with us. Hockaday said he needs White to make a quick return, surely he is surplus to requirements.
Look, we forced Lees out, he did not ask for a transfer, so Cellino made Wendys pay off his contract ... no transfer fee, no percentages, just paid up his remaining wages ... Hock wanted Lees out because the lad did not believe in him ... "his body language betrayed that to me at times" says a hell of a lot ... good luck to the lad, but we lose a young defender who should have stayed, and Hock will be long gone by Christmas at this rate ... we are going to struggle if we don't get centre backs in and quick
