I am merely continuing your quest for correct spelling and grammar Godders. I thought you'd be proud. I'm not telling you to "x off" anywhere. Far from it.

Perhaps I should have written "ripped OFF" to make that clearer?

My apologies. You are quite right to point out my grammatical error. I should of* written "ripped off".

I like how someone always gives Godders a 1* rating to undo his own 5* rating.

Start following Southampton Saints Girls and Womens Football Club (or whatever they're called). That way you can still support a Southampton team but without the drama and rubbish of the Premiership.

Funny how no-one seems to notice what a bunch of dirty rotten scoundrels run the game when things are going well. I don't recall many people complaining when our former chairman was auditioning for ruthless bastard of the year award. Now suddenly the tide turns against us and it's okay to whinge like a big girls blouse about loyalty? Breathtaking hypocrisy imo.

If you are referring to Nigel's sacking, everyone did react angrily at the time...we just didn't do it at the games when you are supposed to support the team. And then Nicola's action appeared inspired...we paid for it down the line. The thing is that most people involved in football (managers and players) either get their contracts paid up in full or get very decent compensation. Contracts are enforced then, so don't see why players think they can just waltz off.

Clubs show no loyalty to players or managers. And while supporters show loyalty to their club, few tears are ever shed for players or managers who are deemed to have served their purpose. as for the Adkins sacking, people only reacted angrily when they thought it was bad for the club. As soon as results started our way, Cortese was hailed as a genius and Nigel was quickly forgotten.

Now we have a new board and we are enduring a torrid summer. But if it gets turned around and things start going our way, which admittedly looks like a longshot just now, all the whinging will stop once again. Meanwhile, football will still be utterly corrupted by money, but just so long as we're among the winners you won't hear much about it on here.

Edit; although I am impressed by the love being shown for Fonte on another thread.

As a Leeds fan, Ive just popped in to get a flavour of what you guys think of the goings-on at your club. My lot are well used to being raped as a club for past ten seasons but I didn't see it coming for the saints. This summer epitomises everything that is rotten about the pl in particular. While of course, its every fans dream for their club to return to it, Im not sure if its worth the grief. Good luck with your season lads

Wait until the end of the transfer window, and then decide if I feel let down, and if so, by whom.

It does make you wonder what it's all about. We're never going to qualify for Champions League, or win the Premier League. NEVER.

Thanks - it's nice to know we're not alone in thinking there is something SO rotten with the PL. Good luck with your season, as well.

The PL has always been poisoned chalice even more so now with the FFP rules in effect cementing the status of the top 4 . We had great times on our way back up from league 1 in particular i remember the opening games against Birmingham and Leeds ,great games of football, proper fans etc

I sympathise with Godders and recently had similar dark thoughts, we are only customers after all and without a decent rate of income/50k season ticket holders/bigger stadium then will always be on an upward struggle...... whats the point !. Football has become a corrupt commercial monster ( Blatter, Platini etc )

But then i remember the opening game away to Man city 2-1 up at 78 minutes and after the game chatting to Man city fans with them saying Saints were one of the best teams they had played and caused them a bit of a shock. Scalping Liverpool at home etc...... real david and goliath moments.

It's these times i look back on and reflect that a small local team playing attractive entertaining football are now undertaking a massive rebuild and with one of the best if not best academy in the country we are well placed over the coming years to compete at a higher level.

This is a new era for saints and one i'm excited to be part of. Just try to ignore the negatives.

Having realised this about football in general (not quite the same level of vitriol towards Saints in particular, but more a general disdain for the whole Premier league, the FA, FIFA, UEFA, etc.) over the last season or so, I decided to not renew my ST this year; only watched two matches during the WC (opener & Final) and this season I'm not going to buy any merchandise either. I'll still take a general interest in Southampton FC (hence my presence on this board), but I'm not going to care as much as I did.
Also, I found another, cheaper hobby to fill my weekends; you must enjoy something else as well as football & Saints - do more of that and you'll find the ins & outs of what's happening at Saints stress you out far less.

56 years i have supported my club and have missed no more than 20 games in all them years and i have stopped going from this season and will never put another penny into my club ever again.....My reason is not the team which is looking stronger this season but the cost of supporting the club and the Rip off charges while players earn obscene amounts of money for kicking a bag of wind. My money i will save will be better spent on my family and i can still watch the match home and away on the web.....
