SANTIAGO VERGINI is still on Sunderlandâs list of transfer targets after the Black Cats boosted their defensive options last night with the capture of Patrick van Aanholt. Dutch international van Aanholt became Sunderlandâs fourth summer signing yesterday when he penned a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light for an undisclosed fee â thought to be around the £1.5million mark â from Chelsea. Van Aanholt is due to meet up with his new team-mates at Sunderlandâs pre-season training camp in Portugal today after the rest of Gus Poyetâs side flew to the Algarve yesterday morning. But the capture of the 23-year-old will not be the last addition to Sunderlandâs defensive ranks this summer, with Verginiâs name remaining on the clubâs list of targets. Verginiâs improvement during his five-month loan stint at Sunderland in the second half of last season saw Gus Poyet make no secret of his desire to re-sign the 25-year-old on a permanent basis. With a modest fee thought to have been pencilled into the loan if Sunderland were impressed, a deal with Argentine outfit Estudiantes looked to be relatively straightforward. Sources close to Vergini had also indicated that the versatile defender was keen on extending his stay at the Stadium of Light. But, since the end of last season, talk over Verginiâs future has ground to a halt, albeit he did spend time during the World Cup training with runners-up Argentina. Sunderland boss Poyet has confirmed that he is still looking to land Vergini though, after he played a key role at right-back during the final seven games of last season which saw the Black Cats beat the drop. Poyet told the Echo: âVergini is still ongoing. âWe started a bit late because of different issues. âBut, yes, itâs still a possibility.â Van Aanholt becomes the only recognised left-back in Sunderlandâs squad, but the Black Cats are unlikely to end their pursuit of last seasonâs loanee Marcos Alonso, with Poyet keen to have competition for places. Sunderland are also eager to add a new central defender to their ranks, with veterans John OâShea and Wes Brown in the final year of their contracts at the Stadium of Light. The clubâs bid to sign Swansea skipper Ashley Williams came to nOught earlier this month when he penned a new deal at the Welsh outfit. But Celtic centre-half Virgil van Dijk could be an alternative after Sunderland scouts watched the Dutchman in Tuesdayâs Champions League qualifier against KR Reykjavik. The Echo understands from sources north of the border that van Dijk could be available for far less than the £10million which was mooted in some reports earlier this week.
This is the thing if we already had an agreement in the loan deal then surely it should have been done by now, wonder if he's the back up plan, if we miss out on our prefered targets Was speaking with a celtic fan yesterday, was gutted when i showed him our link to djik, says he's the best cb to ever pull on a celtic shirt, scored twice in champions league on tuesday, says he's got everything including free kicks
Who knows mate, I like him so I do hope we sign him. Could be our second RB and provide cover for CB Don't know much about Djik
Probably just taking time because of the world cup and players going on holiday, I expect this one to get done, we need cover at RB and CB, lets face it JOS and Brown are not going to stay fit for a whole season. We are going to need some quality in that department.
He's a clever lad scoring twice in a 4-1 loss! But I agree, from what I've seen of him he's a very good player
i thougth during the last five or six games of the season he was one of our better players, hes comfortable on the ball and when hes playing other teams didnt score. I even thought he was our best player when he was playing against liverpool he was the only one who showed some fight.
Sunderland AFC News And Banter Page shared a link: 4 minutes ago @SAFCsource Turns out Santiago Vergini being owned by Atletico Fenix was some sort of tax swindle. http://bit.ly/1oPPXLl No translation, but not good news, I suspect.
A rather long translation. The Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP) in Argentina investigates irregularities in transfers of players, including one from South America Uruguayan club. From the AUF legality of these passes defended. A press release from the AFIP (formerly DGI) mentions cases of "triangulation players", including Ignacio Piatti, that is linked to South America club. "Whether you are researching the new player pass to Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro in principle from the club -Uruguay- Montevideo South America belonging to the second division teams of Uruguayan football, when it should have been transferred from Italy" expresses the statement. "Thanks to the Affidavit Advance Services (Djas), a new tool implemented by AFIP, irregularities in some transfers of football players in the first division were detected," the press release released by the Argentine tax agency Tuesday. The AFIP points to Chile and Uruguay as the two countries from which these transfers occur irregularly defined. "From the close of the transfer window, the AFIP began a comprehensive review of all transfers of players between clubs affiliated to the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and also to the outside," says the statement. An important authority of the Uruguay Football Association (AUF) who preferred to remain anonymous told El Pais that bridge are regulated through the AUF and FIFA. "It is valid and legitimate, adjusted for international and domestic law. Players are often asked to pass a Uruguayan team and then transferred to the outside," he said. "But when he institutions have become sports corporations and have federal rights. From the tax point of view have to meet the standards of the country of origin and are true to the letter," he added. "There are no anomalies, not hidden anything and is not a mystery. Thing about that sometimes it is noteworthy that a club has a player who never played and moves to another club. AUF charges a percentage of all countries, including they pass the bridge, which is about the amount of the transaction, "he concluded. The DGI director Paul Ferreri told El Pais that "no query nor the might be, because there is an agreement to exchange tax information in effect" with Argentina. The Argentina Justice may request information through a judicial warrant his Uruguayan pair. LONG LIST. On 17 August, the Argentine newspaper Perfil published a report that accounts for triangulation, or "passes bridge" Footballers "via Uruguay to, for now, ignore (technically, not evading) taxes." It is known players in Argentina that are transferred from Uruguayan clubs that supposedly belong but where never played. These mentions Racing Fernando Ortiz, Victor Zapata and Jonathan Santana Independiente and San Lorenzo Ignacio Piatti, all from South America. These names sales totaled Facundo Roncaglia Fiorentina, loans Denis Stracqualursi to San Lorenzo and Emmanuel Gigliotti Colon de Santa Fe, and the renewal of the loan to Santiago Vergini Newell`s, everyone from Centro Atlético Fénix . He also mentioned that the newly promoted club Atlético Progreso loaned Roman Martinez Club Estudiantes de La Plata. Recently, there were other countries outside Uruguayan players from clubs that they never played. One was that of Bruno Fornaroli (former National, Sampdoria and San Lorenzo) River from Boston in the second division, Panathinaikos of Greece. "As all the pictures do pass bridge, Boston River has a small financial gain. But for our clubs, which are a tear, serves well," he said in July The Observer Roberto Perdomo Protti, secretary general of Boston River. Another case was that of Tabaré Vuidez (ex Defender, Milan, Necaxa and one of the champions of the last tournament with Uruguayan Nacional) which went from Athens to San Carlos (club in which he never played) to Kasimpasa SK in Turkey. ICONIC. The communique of the AFIP claims that "the most emblematic case" is Jonathan Bottinelli, who was playing in San Lorenzo of Argentina and then moved to River Plate in the country. "However, the operation involved a Chilean club. Suspected performed a maneuver that would allow fiscal opacity hide the real transaction values and those involved in it," says the AFIP. "From the new control strategy online, AFIP implemented Sworn Advance Services (Djas). Statement Thanks to this tool detected that intervened operation Bottinelli Chilean club Union San Felipe in the amount of US $ 1.7 million. The contract provides for a transfer of funds to a bank located in Miami, "says the release. "It also investigates Union San Felipe that could have commercial ties with firms incorporated in the Virgin Islands," he adds. "According to the information available at the AFIP, the player played in San Lorenzo until June and then had been released recruitment. In that sense, the rights of the pass were the property of athlete himself," says the release. He added: "However, the contract linking the player with River indicates that the owner of the player pass (economic and federal rights) is not Bottinelli, but the Club Unión San Felipe, a club owned by Argentine investors according to research carried forward by the AFIP. " "Also, by working together with the tax authorities of the neighboring country, it is investigated whether the funds derived from the operation could be sent to tax havens, so in order to detect specific evasive maneuvers were initiated actions." "Finally, we also found the non-submission of sworn statements by the player, which is why the corresponding audit began," concludes the newsletter of the AFIP.
@GraemeBailey Sunderland closing on deal for Santiago Vergini - Poyet wanted him, Borini and Alonso - all his loan men - on permanent deals.
I think hes more of a right back because i sit on the same side of the pitch and i watched him closely and i was very impressed with his passing, movement on and off the ball, and calmness.
Whatever he is lacking in can be trained into him or will come over time. Having another player in his position will also make him focus on his weak points as well. He always seems to have a mature head on his shoulders when i watch him. Hi positioning can be suspect but overall a great buy.
