I know its pre-season but Van Gaal has done more in 2 weeks then Moyes did in 9 months, the link-up play between Mata and Rooney is a delight to watch, i reckon we will have a good campaign this season, we have a manager that won't take no nonsense from our players.

    First win pleases Moyes

David Moyes was a happy man after Manchester United recorded the first win of his managerial reign by beating the Foxtel A-League All Stars 5-1 in Sydney.

After a lethargic display in last weekend’s pre-season opener in Bangkok, United looked slick at the ANZ Stadium, comfortably overcoming the hosts in front of 83,000 fans.

"It was a special night to get my first victory as Manchester United manager," he told a press conference. "It was a good performance. We could maybe have got a few more goals – we hit the post and had one or two other chances as well.

"The opposition put on a good show, especially in the first half, when they caused us one or two problems. Once we got the goals we got the chance to control the game a little.

"It was a good game for us. We stepped up and I thought we looked a bit fitter tonight, a bit more ready, and the temperature possibly helped us a bit more than in Thailand."

Jesse Lingard and Danny Welbeck scored two apiece before, in his first pre-season action, Robin van Persie netted a fifth, and Moyes had praise for them all.

"To get Robin back on and started was good but I think it was impressive that Danny scored a couple of goals – he might have got four or five on another night," Moyes said.

"The keeper saved one from him with his feet in the first half and he was a bit unlucky. He made a couple of great runs.

"Jesse played well and I was hoping he would get a hat-trick because I think for a young boy to do that for Manchester United is a big thing.

Dont get ahead of yourself but he should be a lot better than Moyes in the long run, no arguement there

Be careful Matth, Moyes first proper game in the prem was against Swansea, with an easy win. Lets not discuss what happened after that

Van Gaal is different though, he won't take none of the crap from the players unlike Moyes.

But then you have to ask yourself why the players should be "giving crap".
They are professional footballers, not children.
I think Rio leaving will steady the ship, he has the IQ of an artichoke and a big mouth (literally and figuratively), which is a bad combination.
Pretty sure he was behind a lot of the discontent in the Man Utd dressing room last season.

Hasn't Van Der Gaal managed 3 goaless draws in his last 4 games?

    What's that based on?

He may be objectionable to some people but he's actually quite astute and has had a successful property and media publishing career outside of football. He once helped out with a charity event I organised and couldn't have been more accommodating so I can't really agree with people who think he's a cock based on what they've seen on TV and rabid club bias. Chelsea fans seem to have a major issue with him which blew up around the time that Rio's brother was called a black c**t during a match.

With regards to players "giving crap" it happens at most clubs, the question is how does the manager deal with it and does he actually have enough power win. Fergie had to get rid of some big name players when he arrived at United but football was a different world back then when players didn't hold the balance of power. AVB never had a chance at Chelsea as the likes of Terry, Drogba and Lampard were running the first team by then. Shearer took on Gullit and won. The Liverpool squad never gave Hodgson a chance. Van Gaal is a bigger character than Moyes and can point at a CV that will shut most players up.

Thought he was a tit a long time before that debacle, it's just the way he comes across. No denying there are far worse around though.

Rio? Missing a drugs test and using the excuse "I forgot".
The whole "Choc Ice" incidence is what killed any respect I might have had for him though.

Yeah that must be it. I dislike someone making an unnecessary reference to footballing tragedy, ergo I am a secret Liverpool fan.

My team is ****e, admittedly, but I've probably seen your team more times than you have.

Watford_R is a decent poster - brings a lot more to this board than you ever will. You just pop in have a moan or slag someone off and disapear.

Mind you there are far worse than you on this board these days <ok>

But Watty_R at least comes and says something constructive (when he's not on the wum <whistle>)
