No. I wouldn't want to serve alongside people who have been forced to be there. One of the arguments that our armed forces are so good is that the uk armed forces are 100% volunteers.
The professional soldiers, who's numbers have been cut, would be well chuffed if they were replaced by conscripts. Besides, there is a sense of pride in the UK ..... people always like a bit of a moan but it's a great place to be. Me and our lass were in Ely today and it was beautiful. Loads of people proudly looking around the city and taking a tour of the wonderful cathedral
Always happy to help mate but if that's not to your taste what about, Mali, Sudan, Angola, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Namibia, Bolivia, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Kurdistan, Kosovo, Bosnia. There's hundreds of countries better than Britain mate. Just stick your head above the parapet, it's a big wide world. Nice chatting though.
It's a long time since I posted on here, but being an-ex Squaddie myself it's always been my view that conscription would be good for society but a disaster for the Armed Forces. It's not a job for everyone, though I'm proud to have done it. If it came to it, at my age in life now I'd still volunteer to join whatever modern equivalent to "Dads Army" they came up with !
Again nice one but if I wanted random third world countries listing to me I'd have a look at a map so I think I'll keep my own counsel on that for the time being.
I'd agree with that first bit with the caveat that it would leave some individuals damaged. Problem is the middle sentence, people shouldn't be forced into it as not every human mind can withstand that lifestyle or the often horrific experiences that soldiers need to go through as part of earning their living. It leaves some utterly broken and there's little in the way of an early signifier for who will cope and who won't.
I did mate, two in the WWII one of whom died at the Bulge in '44 and one (or more) in WWI, one of whom spent the rest of their life incapacitated having gone in early on in the Somme in '16. The greatest respect to those people, who died so I could form my own opinions, but I wouldn't personally put myself at risk fighting in another mans war. For myself or for the ones I love.
God knows what these immigrints are bringing in with them, there should be a quarantine for people who heve been out of our country for say 3 weeks when they come back.
Proud of this country, despite the crap that some of it's lefty citizens chuck at it, but anyone trying to conscript me can **** right off. As can anyone who equates pride in country with willingness to join the armed forces.
