So we can afford some Ferraris...just not a fleet. However, Ralph said the decision to sell wasn't financial...so presumably we didn't have to, but at the right price it made sense to enable more willing players brought in.
But probably because of the champions league style wages they thought they would get with us due to bullshit spouted by Cortese. The second they could actually get this somewhere they wanted out. Maybe there isn't' some big conspiracy with the current owner then!?
I liked the bit where Kreuger said they wanted a shortcut to the CL...so not closing the door on that dream here Nothing wrong with dreaming.
i Blimey, Guided Missile, is he still posting there..? He was there when I joined TSW from SF as an ordinary member. Then I went onto to be a mod and I thought he'd buggered off. John Misselbrook might just be related to the family which partly owned Misselbrook & Weston Ltd in Winchester Rd and now of Nursling Ind' Estate.
I clicked on that link. One of the questions was, Sum up your season in 50 words..? He put: After a triumphant start and a great home win over Manchester United, the season just got better and better. Christmas came and Saints were fourth. The fans had a great deal to celebrate, but since then it has been a long hangover. Maybe a change of manager will kickstart things. That was season 2003-04 [could be 02-03, I forget], but it doesn't half read familiar. The ManU win gave rise to the 50p header phrase after Beatts scored with one in the dying minutes.
Personally that method sounds a more financially sound way of progressing. If we offer bonuses for success it means we will be paying a lower weekly wage. It then connects the players' goals with that of the fans and the club - taking it away from simply picking up their pay check each week, they will be striving for that extra money. Cortese isn't stupid, especially when it comes to money. If we get into Europe, then we will get bigger revenues, as well as bigger sponsorship deals. Not sure I would trust an agent either, given that they may have something against Cortese given his lack of payments to them. Sounds a pretty poor way of justifying so many exits.
That's a good point; agents probably don't like Southampton much. Agents really are a cancer on this sport.
If he were paying players under the table, the union, the FA, the tax collector, and probably half a dozen other government agencies would probably be very interested to hear about it.
I don't like the convenient alliance between agents and journos. Why aren't some sensible reporters chasing these guys. Sam Allardyce's deal with half his players and his son is dodgy as hell, but it was only in the news for a few days.
Rubbish . Danny is our highest earner around £85 Grand per week , still on the books ( we want to sell but not for financial reasons ) . J-Rod second highest earner around £65 Grand PW , still here . The two new signings are on about £65 - £75 grand per week . We are NOT selling for financial reasons , if we were , why are we paying high wages for the incomers ?..................
Where on earth are you getting these wages from? I thought we had heard Tadic and Pelle would be on circa 40-45k per week. And most people say that Dani was on £60k per week (as highest earner.) Rodriguez on £65k per week ????? What are you smoking??
