Got that kind of money lying around have you? Really gets on me t** ends when people talk about fees as if they were using there own cash. If Ashleys prepared to fund a decent striker then i couldn't giv a S*** what was paid for him

Where does Ashley's money come from? Most of us contribute financially to the club and so are entitled to an opinion on how that money is spent. Of course we have no influence on the figures but that's not to say we can't talk about them.

He does have a point though, not that I think it's the one he was trying to make. Why bother coming up with arbitrary numbers you'd pay for a player? Does it make that much difference if we buy a player for £7m or £8m, what about signing fees, wages, other bonuses, etc? Would you be outraged if we spent £500k more than the number you've decided is the maximum you'd pay?

Possibly. We all have the club's best interests at heart and that includes how much we spend on players. Sure, it's 'coming out of Ashley's pocket' but if we pay £2m over the odds on a player that's £2m less we have to spend in other positions and for that reason, we are entitled to be unhappy when our personal valuation is exceeded.

The whole reason we blurt out figures is so we can come to an agreement of how much we rate a player collectively.

I get your point, but what we rate a player based on our outside knowledge isn't necessarily representative of a player's true value, and is usually ignorant of the amount of money required to make any transfer work, before taking into account what could be millions of pounds spent in fees which we don't find plastered across the papers. What I'm basically saying is that people come across as far too specific as to how much they'd be willing to see spent, especially seeing as their valuation is generally arbitrary.

You missed my point you dumb ****. Bet you were one of the mugs with Owen 10 on your shirt at his unveiling though! And to say paying 7mil for a international striker is madness is madness. Go play some more football manager. prat

depends on the player, for instance £1 would be the maximum amount I'd be willing to spend on Smith

Calaye, fair enough we don't know the inner workings of transfers but we can still natter about it, if everything written was well-informed this forum would be pretty empty. <laugh>

Not to mention, we payed 3.5M for Cabaye who is international midfielder. And we payed nothing for Demba Ba who is also an international striker.

Fingers crossed we can sign him and Sturridge now that would be a cracking attacking selection of players.
