Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has ordered Luke Shaw to train alone because he is not fit enough to perform at the level he requires. England left-back Shaw, a summer signing from Southampton, returned late to club training after spending the summer with Roy Hodgson's squad at the World Cup in Brazil. Shaw trained on his own at FedEx Field in Washington on Monday as Van Gaal oversaw preparations for the friendly clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday. His England team-mates Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones all trained with the rest of the squad. "I am always a trainer who sees the individuals and what each player needs," Van Gaal said. "I canât judge why. I see what I see. I have spoken with him and we have made a programme with him. "He has agreed. We will have to see how long it takes. I donât know. I have heard good messages from Tony Strudwick the fitness coach." Van Gaal also confirmed he will give Wilfried Zaha the chance to impress as a striker against Inter, where he will be the last member of United's squad to get a run-out. The Dutchman has told the England Under-21 international he will have to focus on playing more centrally as he does not fit in elsewhere in his proposed 3-5-2 formation. Van Gaal added: "He will have to play as a striker as he canât play the other positions in the system. "Ashley Young can play as a wing-back. Zaha cannot do that so he will be a striker. "I have spoken with him and I think he can do it. We will see. He will play the second 45 minutes of this game and will play as a striker." http://www1.skysports.com/football/...gh-says-manchester-united-boss-louis-van-gaal --------------------- When Rooney was told to take him under his bingo wing he wasnt expected to give him his dietary plan as well Very open from VG here. Ferguson sort of toughness but far more open. How will the players react? They will all be busting a gut remember to show it was Moyes and not them for the failure last season
I thank you, I'm here all week. Joking aside (and unfortunately), I think LVG will do very well. Your mob were always going to suffer once Fergie had gone, that's been done and dealt with now. You will clearly improve on last season, with the "ghost of Sir Alex" a little further away, it means comparisons will with Moyes instead......so guaranteed to look better. Add to that, as has been said, the players will want to prove it wasn't their fault last year AND without European football of any sort (not a dig....well, not entirely...although...it is quite funny), I think you will end up in one of the top 3 places. To add to your joy, with goofy leaving and the added pressure/demands of the Champions League, I think Liverpool will find it harder toward the end of the season. WIN WIN for your lot.
That and LVG appears to be determined to be his own man, and not try to copy SAF. With hindsight, it was always going to be difficult to succeed with Moyes expected to follow in SAF's footsteps. Same way Arsenal never achieved anything as "Barcelona lite", Moyes was always likely to fall down trying to be "Fergie-lite". Still, as you say it may work out well in the end - we've had a short, sharp shock of a single season of failure, which essentially clears out any lingering sentimentality for SAF's methods and gives LVG a clean slate to work with. All things considered, I think I'd still rather have that than the type of slow lingering decline Chelsea had after Mourinho, and Liverpool had after Dalglish. Tho' that does of course depend on LVG's ability to build the team in his own image over the long run.
Looking back with the benefit of retrospection it is hard to see why Fergie thought Moyes was the right candidate to replace him. DM was the exact opposite of him. DM hadnt won anything of note and had never been able to beat a top side away. But the worst thing was that the players did not respond to him and the team as a whole suffered. LVG has less pressure than DM and has more clout than he would have had following SAF.
I always found it hard to believe that Moyes was SAF's first choice to replace him too. I am pretty sure there would have been a few others on their list that they sounded out first before Moyes. When asked, Mourinho said he was never offered the role, yet he claims SAF told him about his impending retirement as far back as February of that year, could SAF have been testing the waters? Who knows, guess it doesnt matter now
Even allowing for last years disaster under Moyes, I am forever grateful that Mourinho was not even considered. Too big an ego from the Portugeeza to be allowed anywhere near OT. To be honest, I thought Moyes was the right choice, but now we have LVG we will see. He seems top be making the right sound bytes, but so did Moyes
this I think it is going to be much more difficult than many people here are thinking. Some are already saying it is sorted. We are far far from being sorted! My fear is that we have not reached the bottom yet. Hope I am wrong but even if I am not I would want the manager to be given more time...
Of course LVG has an ego, but if you consider his ego to be the size of a kids party balloon, then consider the Russian crook and Jose to be a pair of Zepellins
I had Moyes down for a success... what he did with Everton's budget, at the time, looked impressive. His failure surprised me. I equally would hate to see Mourinho at my club. I don't care how good he is or isn't... I just don't like him. I would hate to have him associated with my club.
Agree with you Milk etc, I genuinely thought Moyes was the right man, but just as he was right, Mourinio was totally wrong. I guess we will never know the real reason with Moyes, maybe it was just too big a club to handle, with too much expectation. And it did have the "poisoned chalice" tag whenever SAF retired. But lets say it was Morhinio, and he won something in his first year.I doubt his ego would rest, and cause problems from then on in. Chelsea's the right place for him, but I doubt it will be trouble free..
