Neil Adams upbeat after the match, looking to do business before the Wolves game. Bad news is that Howson's knee injury will keep him out for two league matches. Lafferty and Tettey should return to training this week.
Yep, I've really missed him, hope he has a storming season, very few players like him, certainly at this level and even more so from these shores.
He generally looks good going forwards, but his positioning defensively sometimes leaves a lot to be desired I've felt. Hopefully that'll be less of a concern than in the Premier League.
Whits problem has always been making silly decisions in the defence. There were times last season when he'd run himself into a corner, but then the same seemed to happen to most of our players as they never had anyone to pass to. Best thing I took from the highlights is Surman's goal. He was way ahead of the strikers and that's something we didn't see once last year. I think he'll play a big role and a combination of Tettey, Fer, Howson or Surman will be really really strong. Even taking Fer out, Johnson provides the cover and we have plenty of options out wide as well as in the middle! Looking much more promising!
When I was in work today, I checked on the odds for leading goalscorers for City this year. Here they are: Grabbon 14/1 Hooper 20/1 RvW 28/1 Lafferty 66/1 Might be worth a quid
So 2 goals against Celta Vigo and we've arched our goal tally for last season in preseason. Sounds like we were genuinely good and exciting today which is good, I'm becoming more and more exciting about the season now.
Seen lot's of comments saying that Redmond was excellent tonight and that he was particularly unselfish, I'm wondering if this is the benefit that Adams is having on his game. There was little first hand knowledge that our previous coaching team could pass to him but Adams knows the wide positions well. Could we be about to see some great things from Redmond? Last season he was fairly obviously talented but didn't seem to have the footballing brain needed to make it count, obviously it will also be helpful that we seem to have developed far better attacking movement that we ever showed last season which has also lead from Adams working with all the players. Last season I thought that Redmond need someone to work with him a bit (Adams or Hucks probably) now he seems to be getting it. On a separate point I'm glad to see that we do seem to have good attacking movement and that we are getting the ball in the back of the net, the two pre-seasons that Hughton took both yielded a worrying lack of goals which lead on into the season. It was always a concern. So the tour may have been a bit of balls up at points but i think the pre-season as a whole has gone pretty well.
I think it's possible that Hughton actively encouraged Redmond to be selfish and to shoot instead of pass. If he shoots and it ends up in Row Z, there's a goal kick and we can regroup and defend in numbers. If he passes and it gets intercepted or goes wrong, we are at risk of a counter-attack. That seemed to be Hughton's entire modus operandi - never ever take any kind of risk. It's why we managed the grand total of 28 goals last season.
Excellent post vc!! I'm hopeful of an exciting season ahead with lots of attacking football, which will hopefully result in lots of goals (or at least shots on goal) and unite the fans again. PS - for those who haven't seen the goals, you can see them here - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...rom_norwich_s_5_1_win_over_ogc_nice_1_3704155 Looked like quite a decent crowd and I thought Benno's goal was superb!!!
The first half was very impressive, everything flowed through Surman with Redmond and Grabban interchanging up front and wide. Elliot Bennett also impressive on the right with Wes playing in the hole but ratting around, tackling back etc. Johnson playing the lone defensive midfielder and Rusty and Turner mainly untroubled at the back. Nice to see 5/6 of the FA Youth Cup winning team coming on in the last twenty five minutes.
Very possibly true to my mind, but even now, people like to have a swipe at Hughton! Let it go people, this is the start of a new era,
Absolutely - I'm hopeful that within a couple of weeks, CR will be a 'cauldron of noise' once again. Just like it was when we were charging up league 1 and the Championship.
