Now it's Spurs turn (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28534458). Is it me or is Southampton being butt f...d by all the big boys this summer. Do they have a squad left? I can't help but feel sorry for them. If it was us, we'd all be losing our s**t. If this happened in a bar to a lady, there'd be screams of rape. Thoughts?
They're being butt f**ed by their bitch if an owner who inherited the club from her father when he died and she's hell bent in selling of the profitable players, pocketing the money before selling the club. I really feel for the supporters, they could well go down this season. Puts it into perspective how lucky we with our board.
Here's another example. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/blackpool/10992919/Blackpool-have-only-eight-players.html The chairman took a wage of £11m for their premier league season.
Wow, is that the deal. Liquidation sale almost. It's tragic. If they stay up it will be amazing. Do they have a manager.
Makes for a very interesting read regarding FFP. Seen this on the Saints board. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-board-cannot-blamed-exodus-3926519
They will also be quoted premium prices for any player they chase as clubs will know how much money they have.
Agree. They are screwed and it's a bloody shame, and the owner doesn't give a damn as LNG as she asset strips and pockets the money. They have worked their socks off rebuilding to get back where they were after years in trouble. That's why I'd prefer us to finish 10-13th, otherwise we could end up top 10 and see the same thing happen to us too.
Southampton owe £27m in transfer fees 31 March 2014* Updated 08:20 By Nabil Hassan - BBC Sport New Southampton director Hans Hofstetter says the club's board has inherited a; "difficult financial situation". Hofstetter spoke as Southampton published their annual results for the year ending 30 June 2013 - their first back in the Premier League. The club posted a net loss of £7.1m and will enter the summer window owing £27m in outstanding transfer fees. A bill in excess of £30m is also pending for their new training ground. Previous chairman Nicola Cortese resigned in January, with Ralph Krueger replacing him. Hofstetter joined the board at the same time.... "Whilst I perceive that we have inherited a difficult situation financially, there are now clear and structured plans in place to progress the club and avoid a similar situation from occurring again," Hofstetter said in a statement. Cortese was at Southampton from 2009 and was widely credited with helping to bring stability off the pitch after years of financial turmoil. However, Hofstetter says the new board must act now to eradicate some of the "burdens" of that regime. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, he added: "Of course it's a burden, but it's a burden that has to be covered and will be covered. When I came in from the outside I had different information, I was surprised but not disappointed. It is what it is and my culture is to look to the future and accept the past." That past means Southampton will begin next season with a transfer debt of £27m - despite already repaying £21m of fees this season alone - but Hofstetter says that will not lead to the sale of star players such as Luke Shaw, Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana. "The most important point is that we are in a position where we do not need to sell any player Mauricio [Pochettino] wants to keep," Hofstetter added. "We have a very strong squad and we are still in a situation where we are free enough to act quickly if quick action is asked from us." The over-spend on the club's new training ground at 'Staplewood' is also significant, with the expected total cost now more than £30m - up from an original estimate of £15m. However, the wage-to-turnover ratio has fallen sharply - from 102% to a healthier 65% - after the removal of exceptional bonuses associated with promotion. Operating profit is up to £8.7m, although that becomes a net loss of £7.1m once transfer expenditure is taken into account. Commercial income rose from £4.8m to £6.7m after Southampton's ascension to the top flight. The Liebherr family, represented by non-executive chairman Katharina, injected a further £12.5m during the financial year, with another £2.2m in September 2013 bringing the total investment to £52.7m. However, £37.9m of that has been converted into equity shares, bringing the club's net liabilities down to £1.6m from £32.4m in 2012.
People forget that Southampton spent a lot of money all the way up.... - in League 1 they could outbid all but the biggest clubs in the Championship, they brought in a raft of players Wiki - "As well as Rickie Lambert, Pardew was given the funds to complete a string of other signings to rebuild the squad including: Dean Hammond [undisclosed], Radhi Jaïdi [free], Graeme Murty [free], Dan Harding [free], David Connolly [free], Michail Antonio [loan], Papa Waigo [loan], Lee Barnard [undisclosed], José Fonte [£1.2M], Danny Seaborne [undisclosed], Jon Otsemobor [free] and Jason Puncheon, meaning that by the end of the January transfer window, Southampton had spent over £3 million on players, a significantly larger amount than any other League One club." Although it took Nigel Adkins to sort those players into a team good enough to get promotion. - In the Championship they sold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for £12m and invested in Jack Cork, Steve De Ridder, Daniel Fox, Jos Hooiveld, Tadanari Lee and Billy Sharp (I imagine they invested in the recruitment side of the youth set up also, would have to check with a Saint) - 1st season in the Prem they brought in; Jay Rodriguez £6m, Gaston Ramirez £12m and beat off stiff competition for the likes of Nathaniel Clyne and Vegard Forren. 2nd season in the Prem they spent £36m on recruiting Dejan Lovren, Victor Wanyama and Pablo Osvaldo. If they owed £27m in unpaid transfer fees before they started this summer and have a new £30m training complex to pay for it's not that hard to understand why these sales are happening....add in Pochettino leaving for Spurs and you see why they've probably had to let 1 or 2 more go than what they would have liked. This summer for Southampton = £57m in the red. £87m worth of players sold so far (Luke Shaw £27m, Adam Lallana £25m, Dejan Lovren £20m and Callum Chambers £15m) £19m worth of players bought so far (Tadic and Pelle) I reckon Koeman will be allowed to spend £20-30m yet. Tough gig for Koeman though regardless of the money...if it's true that Laudrup turned them down it would make more sense knowing what we do now. Koeman is kind of on a hiding to nothing.
We may have a chance of taking three points off them this season! I don't think we've beaten them in the Prem.
Thankyou for Nathan Dyer , Southampton were a bad judge of character on that one .... pound for £ one of the great signings for us on the journey to the top yankee . I like Southampton and we lost our inspiration title to them last season , probably the only "smallish team " to be scrutinized for players more than us .
Bang on. A lot of people have forgotten that Southampton have a history of financial irresponsibility. They got away with it unlike their neighbours Portsmouth.
Not much different to what happened to us though. Losing brenden, siggy, allen and scott sinclair after one season in the top flight , preceeding that losing pratley, dorus and you could argue to a lesser extent borini. In fact id say we had it alot worse ! Like sousa after judas We should never under estimate the rebuilding job laudrup did using hardly no money at all, but as with some people things like that Get too easily forgotton. Southampton stole plenty of talent anyway, they stole from us for years so what goes around etc. They also had alot of money to play with something we never had.
Norway. When you say job laudrup done with hardly no money. Am I right in saying he purchased the following in his first season:- Michu 2.2 gone Chico 2 Ki 5.5 record loan last season Pablo 5.6 new record gone Lamah loan nothing special Schechter loan pants Jdg loan good The neucleus of the team was basically the same vorm, rangel, taylor (davies), leon, routs, dyer, graham. Southampton have basically been ripped apart with the following left / leaving Chambers, lovren, Shaw, 3 of defense Lallanna, rodriguez, scneiderling, lambert, spine in front of defence / attack I would chuck a cheeky bid in for Clyne you never know and possibly cork both british and youngish. Also play our style in good on the ball
Ki was signed by the club not laudrup and i believe before he arrived. Michu, chico, pablo and JDG all for under 9m while we sold allen for 15m scott for 7m and got 6m for rodgers so yes in premier øeague terms we spent hardly nothing ! Less than we spent the year before i Think. Chambers only played around 18 games for Southampton so hardly what you would call a backbone of the team. They have lost front line players but so did we . They lost 6 plus the manager we lost 4 plus the manager, so as i said in my origional post " not much different to what happened to us" Add taylors out for the season injury and your in pretty much the same ball park in terms of first team regulars missing 5 and 6 The fact that michu, pablo etc Are gone or were rubbish is totally irrelevant by the way. You could also argue that this season we look like losing or have lost a similar number to Southampton yet again! Ben gone Vorm gone Pablo gone Michu gone JDG looks like gone Canas looks like gone Compare our turn over in the last few years to theirs and we Are much worse off than them actually .
I think the Southampton owners probably thought; "we'll sell 4/5 and get the club's finances back on an even keel" ...but what we're seeing now is a snowball effect. So every Saints player who has had big clubs sniffing around are thinking; "I'd best take my chance right now otherwise I risk being one of those left behind fighting for Prem survival, the spotlight will move on and I won't get another chance". It could be that panic has set in amongst the first team and, as you say, cheeky bids for Clyne and Cork could well be worth our while.... However, Clyne has been tracked by big clubs and has plenty of options and they will both be on good wages...Southampton have been getting excellent prices, so they might still be out of our range. Cork is the most realistic target imo. Depends entirely on whether he wants to force the issue (as Koeman will want to keep him and he'll be virtually guaranteed a starting berth with Schneiderlin leaving)
