If we finish 8th I will sprint naked onto the pitch with a trumpet up my arse, playing The Halleluia Chorus and doing handstands.
Depends on what sort of start we manage. Similar to last year, we have a relatively merciful start followed by a fairly brutal December/January...that could be beneficial, if it allows us to pick up points early, or it could mean that we lose a bunch of winnable contests in the first couple months as the team sorts itself out, followed by running into a buzzsaw.
What a ridiculous attitude some people have. Koeman may prove to be great, but he is unproven in the PL. He is not a wizard. Selling 5/6/7/8 of our best players will of course damage us. With this squad right now I think we will be dragged into the dogfight massively. After signings who knows. We are an injury to Fonte away from Yoshida and Hooiveld being our centre backs. Not to mention dented squad harmony, unproven players etc. If jay and Morgan join the players out, we have lost 76% of last seasons goals.
SaintStinger has been reading from the same business plan as Kat! And anyone saying 8th really should just concentrate on their tennis from now on.
Not a chance we'll survive in my opinion. Apparently another Premier League club want Nathaniel Clyne as well.
If rumours are to be believed our Pemier survival will depend on how quick Kat can find a buyer with an interest in our survival. It would appear that we won't have a transfer kitty to buy anyone with, so it will be patch and mend with, time running out that isn't going to work.
Maybe this has happened because the contracts of our star players were unsustainable over a longer period. It was noted that Athletico Madrid's wage bill was similar to Fulham's - a top Spanish club paying as much as relegated Fulham. It beggars belief that Premiership players at a middling Premiership club were earning much more than those at a top European club. So perhaps the Board are catering for a dip, if relegation were to follow it would be sustainable and the club would be in a financial position to bounce back. Plus a luxurious state-of-the-art academy needed paying for so a time to readjust the books, and sign players that we can afford and are proud to wear the Southampton shirt. If I am optimistic then we will avoid relegation. Make Davis captain as he is a leader by example.
I'm more than a bit concerned for 3 reasons: 1] Lack of fire power, 2 untried lads up front with Gallagher as back up. 2] When you have your back against the wall the nippers are usually the first to hide. 3] Virtually a new team with no time to bond, its so vital in the Prem. to hit the ground running.
I don't think so. Too early to tell yet what with the entirely new look team we'll have, but with the funds available to RK we should stay up fairly comfortably. We won't be as comfortable as last season, but it's hard to look past how bad West Brom and others will be, so I think we'll survive by at least 10 points This is going to be a massive rebuilding year for Koeman and the team, it's so vital that the fans don't get on his back if/when things get sour. If we finish 16th/17th and remain in the league to push on next year then so be it. We lay the foundations this year then hopefully have another push at top half next year. Edit: The 'I don't think so' was I don't think we'll be relegated, not I don't think we'll stay up! There's me not reading the question properly.
Sky Bet initially had the Saints as 14/1 outsiders for relegation when they opened betting at the start of the summer but now make them 11/2 for the drop.
I think it is more important than ever that we take points off teams fearing relegation. Have no idea how we will do without knowing the team, but Koeman has a job on his hands. If he can organise a bunch of strangers in a short space of time we will be fine.
To be fair, a lot of people do overestimate our team, If morgan and rodriguez left we would go down. Not a doubt in my mind. Now if we bring players in we should be okay, but i think if we saw another club doing this we would put them first for the drop
My apologies, that came out a lot harsher than I meant it to. I just cannot comprehend how some people aren't worried at all at this point. I will get excited when we have something to be excited about!
With our current squad we will probably go down: a lack of fire power and cohesion. We may add some great players but it will take time to gel and unfortunately our more winnable games are at the start of the season when we will likely struggle. Going to be very tough to stay up.
