We will be fine though. More great youngsters to breakthrough and Ron has loads of money to spend. TBH I've got to the stage where they should go if they want. Only Rickie has gone for a reasonable fee. The others are all way overpriced imo.
I admire the way you always stick by the team Lambsy. A lot of fans are getting a bit angry and are missing the vital point, that these guys are professionals, who want to improve themselves and face new harder challenges, it's their careers first and foremost not the fans. We only get to borrow their services for a length of time.
Lallana, Lambert, Shaw, Lovren, with Chambers, Rodriguez and Schnedelin (sp?) on their way. 7 players who have left or will be leaving. Sorry - but signing 2 players of, lets be honest, not the same quality can only spell disaster. Saints are in trouble in my humble opinion! Also - 3 - nil in a friendly to Ebbsfleet - better to get the bad results out the way before anything competitive happens I guess..... .....talk about clutching straws!
Southampton lost to Farnborough in a pre-season friendly in their promotion from League 1 season. Just shows friendly results are meaingless. Plus, Ebbsfleet have traditioally been one of the top Conference South sides.
Now now, I know Southampton are being dismantled by their 'benevolent dictator', but that's a bit pessimistic.
Thanks Mike In all seriousness they are being asset stripped big time, it is rumoured another 8 senior players are leaving and the good/bad Fraulein is trousering the cash in her lederhosen! We have seen it happen to us maybe she thinks its time to cash in her pension fund?
SB we might lose another but we have several youndters ready to step up and 100m to spens. Worry about staying in the leagoe if I were you.
We will get promotion this time around and as your new manager tweets a picture of your latest training session to the Sun, YOU WILL be coming down http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...ure-of-empty-Southampton-training-ground.html Just light the blue touch paper and retire,,,,,,,,,,,,oops looks like' the firesale 'is already ablaze! '
Sell 7 players for £100m......try to buy Vlaar for £2m and get some Arsenal kids in on loan..... Please, Lamb, take it from us - the fans who know best about asset stripping - that KL is selling up, she has never had an interest in the club (shown by her spat with NC). She wants out and wants out with the most amount of money possible. Unless you can get another big money owner in then it will keep getting worse and worse.... You never know, it may get so bad you are begging Rupert Lowe to come back onboard! At least you can count on the all Saints fans when a "Save our club" charity match is arranged........oh wait..... ;-)
Well said Mike, we have not really seen eye to eye before but you are spot on this time as am I. I must have mellowed a bit in Brazil! PUP Down with the Pony Fiddlers
Name calling aside (naughty SB3) - I do not want to see SFC go down the pan. I would like to return to the days of the south coast having 2,3,4 teams up there and playing good football in the higher leagues. I would stress to all Saints fans though that what is happening to your club is asset stripping and there is unfortunately nothing you can do about it. The owner wants her money and she will walk away with it. Yes, you do have a decent (if not the best academy) but no players from there will be able to step up straight away next season and play 38 games. You need in new recruits of better quality than you have lost. Unfortunately, with no team and apparently no ambition anymore, what player in their right mind would travel to St Marys now? Its going to be a long old tough season for our neighbours, but I do feel for them. We were asset stripped by previous owners and we all know how nice that was!
I agree, it really does look like asset stripping and that Frau Lieberman wants out. You have to question why so many players want to leave after what has been success upon success for them in the last four or five years. Is it because they thought that, as a team, they realised their full potential last season and that if they want to go to the next level then they have to move to a better club, or that they have seen the writing on the wall and want out? On the one hand, the fact that all those who have left have gone to better clubs may signify they all just wish to better themselves, but that so many have gone, following the CEO and manager, would suggest otherwise. As fans we either don't see, or choose not to see, what is apparent to others, something we of the blue persuasion were guilty of after we won the FA Cup. I won't try and predict the outcome, other than I suspect next season may not be as heady as last. Unusually for a Pompey fan, I had a lot of admiration for Saints under Potchetino with a balance of youth and experience and a healthy number of home grown players producing football that was pleasing to the eye. It was no coincidence they provided three (nearly four) England squad members for Brazil. Neither is it a coincidence they have all left the club. To paraphrase Lady Bracknell, "To lose one player may be regarded as a misfortune. To lose two looks like carelessness. To lose more than half a team ..."
This made me laugh http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-board-cannot-blamed-exodus-3926519 Especially this bit..............
Not laughing, just a bit smug! It's most unbecoming of me, but hey, they gave us a lot of stick over the last few years
Some did. Some didn't. Some enjoyed every last minute of it. Some understood the pain. But that's the thing with football clubs - they rise, they fall, they have good times, they have bad times. My Chelsea fanatic mate never forgets the times they had the buckets out at Stamford Bridge trying to get enough money to keep the club going. Football is not like any other business - I haven't found any other type of business that rises and falls like clubs do.
So that's Chambers gone, schneidilen (sp) and Rodriguez off to Spuds and prem clubs apparently sniffing around Clyne, Boruc and fonte. Having a read of the echo comments sections read like deja vu for this Pompey Fan. It appears our neighbours have a Peter Storrie like figure in Led Reid who is being blamed for everything yet it is obvious he is just a sock puppet. Interesting fact: KL selling club would involve paying capital gains tax.....if she sells the players before she sells the club then the value decreases as well as her tax contribution. Very clever.
