looking at player prices in divisions below us i would say that there is a number of players at city that would be in the 10 million range.
I dont think any club in the country would pay more than £5m for him. I think he had a very average season, he was just excellent in a couple of games that got loads of media attention. Just my opinion like.
For once I agree with you. It's not so much selling before they buy, as selling 8 players before they buy 1. If they'd sold 1 and then replaced them and then sold another they'd be fine. Now they've lost as many as they have it's not just other clubs fleecing them that's a risk, they've also got the issue of convincing their targets to sign. Despite the season they had last year they're pretty much in the same position as a newly promoted club, all the players and their agents are going to be asking a lot of questions about who else they intend to sign, and the first 2 or 3 in are going to be vastly overpaid, not that great, or very brave from a career point of view. Obviously Saints fans will be hoping for the latter. As it stands he's still a free transfer, so unless Rangers' accounts still show legal action pending we'd struggle to not make a profit.
Players are worth what another club is prepared to pay, this amount is often inflated due to media hype.
So what some of you are saying is that even if we emulate Southampton and finish the season in eighth place our players will not increase in value. We are spending money on a "development squad" to do what exactly, devalue? Sorry I did not realise that. I thought we were buying in talented players to develop and sell on. I feel sorry for the lads now, come to Hull and end your career.
Southampton haven't spent money on a development squad, they have developed an academy over years that's now reaping rewards. We should very much aim to emulate this, but it will take years to do and the chances of us ever managing to replicate what's been achieved at Southampton are very slim. We're buying proven Premier League players and we're playing a bloody fortune for them, we've not really spend anything on a development squad. Your post makes no sense at all.
I thought we were buying talented players to achieve success. I understood your original post to suggest the Allams will build a squad, watch it rise in price and then sell it to get their money back. I may have misunderstood him but I always thought Assem Allam put building a successful football club first as it would help cement his legacy. Please let me know if I'll misunderstood you.
Southampton have had great success with their academy, but the team that played last season was not full of players who had spent entire careers at the club. My post is about cashing in on a successful season. Saints losing one, two or even three of their top players was accepted to a degree by the supporters and they understood, but with the latest set of transfers Lovran, Chambers and Daniel Osvaldo, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jay Rodriguez, Jose Fonte all looking at moves. It does have a feel of a "cashing in the chips" about it. How many former Saints academy players have been sold? I would ask again why can't that happen at Hull City. How much did we pay for Curtis Davis and how much is he worth now? If the Allams said sell him Steve we want a bit of cash in the club, would he be gone?
Southampton supporters believed that their clubs owners wanted to build a successful club and yet ask them now if they still feel the same. Believe it or not since Friday the whole situation has changed down here, regarding how the fans see the club.
I would have thought a lot of our players would think differently to that,Mel. More like come,to Hull and 'have' a career ! By that i mean we have very talented players like Hudd and Livermore who barely got a game at Spurs, and people like Chester whom we gave first team football.
The highest number of comments ever posted on the site. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sa...d_Saints_discuss___16m_Chambers_deal/?ref=mac This is what prompted my post and the question still is.....If we are successful as Southampton will this happen to us? My guess is yes. The reasons put forward for the exodus, range from the players wanting to develop right through to the owner preparing the club for sale, by getting the money in now whilst she can. she had no interest in football until getting left the club, the club was saved by her Father and it progressed rapidly. So apart from us not having a very good academy, why should I not compare the two clubs and ask what would happen?
Because we didn't have a season anywhere near as successful as Southampton's and most of our players cost more than they're worth. There's no comparison at all.
Luke Shaw - academy - cost nowt, sold for £30m. Adam Lallana - academy - cost £3k, sold for £25m. Calum Chambers - academy - cost now, sold for £12m. Dejan Lovren - Lyon - cost £8.5m, sold for £20m. Osvaldo is being sold because he's an arsehole, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez are going to go for massive fees and I doubt Fonte will leave. Southampton are quite obviously cashing in and that's quite some cashing in they're doing, it remains to be seen how much of that money Koeman will be given to rebuild. We're nowhere near any of those numbers.
Makes perfect sense to me what you're saying Omega. If we finished 8th of course our ****ing players would be worth more than we paid as we'd have had a brilliant season. But Mr Allam wont cash in, some of the players will want a move obviously and theres nowt we can do about that but I'll bet we get top price if they do leave.
