Clough has blinked, I expect we'll get him now. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Nige...ed-Hull-City/story-21947617-detail/story.html
Maguire update Sheffield United have reluctantly accepted Hull City's latest bid for Harry Maguire. The Premiership club have finally met United's valuation for the defender, who has now been granted permission to speak to the East Yorkshire club. United's Managing Director, Mal Brannigan, commented: "We made it clear that we wanted Harry to stay by offering him a new contract at the end of last season, unfortunately he and his representatives chose a different path. "However, as he is under contract at Bramall Lane, we exercised our right to set our own valuation of him and after numerous bids which did not meet our expectations, Hull City increased their offer and we have reluctantly accepted. "As we have previously stated, Sheffield United are not under pressure to sell our players but on this occasion it was deemed the best for all parties and now we move on with the aim of assisting Nigel Clough to strengthen his squad." http://www.sufc.co.uk/news/article/20140728-maguire-update-1786224.aspx#HYFepypAcr8vPSIZ.99
Still don't believe that we have or are going to pay what they were asking for, now it looks like he's joining I'll welcome him, but still have my doubts over his lack of pace.
Clough's ended up with egg on his face and Bruce has shown his experience, such an asset to the club. I still expect we'll sign another CB, but Maguire will be given his chance to prove he's better than what we've got.
It's a blatant PR stunt from Sheff Utd to try and get their fans behind the board. It was inevitable they would eventually accept an offer as that kind of money is too difficult to refuse when in league one.
This is ****ing hilarious considering all of their supposed resolve. All part of the food chain I suppose and 2m could buy them promotion if spent wisely. Not convinced by Clough as a manager though, he seems to me like a 'decent job' manager rather than anything 'wow' like.
I wonder if SB see's a bit of a young Steve Bruce in HM? Big, burly centre back; talented, but not blessed with pace etc.
I think its pretty am amazing that Sheff Utd fans seems to think they have an amazing manager and they are a shoe in for promotion just based on having Clough as a manager.
If you read their forums, you'll be very mistaken ie. promotion. A lot of them are pissed off that they aren't investing in the squad after selling their best players.
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2014/07/28/4988559/- Looks like we've just signed Carl Jenkinson???
Robertson, Maguire, Jenkinson... 3 young british defenders to cover LB, CB & RB... very interesting if all 3 come off.
Would rather see that from a more reliable source before I cartwheel down Ferensway in joy. (I mean www.goal, not you, as unreliable).
Still speaking rubbish the lot of you. Every single Blades fan I have spoken to this morning including myself see this move as a great bit of business. We all know Maguire is a good player however he I will say it over and over again he currently a good player in league one and if you play him in the premiership as he is at the minute he will be found out quite a bit. Nurture him for a couple of years and invest in him and you could potentially have a decent player but he just isn't ready for it yet. We put an ambitious price on his head and we got our price by the sounds of it which is very shrewd business and as I said last night his price tag was inflated but this was down to Man Utd and Chelsea. As for selling our best players and not replacing em....Your having a laugh!. Maybe 3 years ago we did yes but not now. Prior to selling Maguire we signed 2 quality replacements. Butler from Walsall is more than experience at League One level, he has captained his team and in pre season has already looked a more than capable player even popping up with a goal from a set piece. We've also signed another hot young prospect in Harrison McGahey from Blackpool. This lad broke into the first team at the end of last season and according to Blackpool FC and the fans was the only real positive to come out of a bad season. Dickov told the media that the lad was amazing and well above his age as Maguire is and that Blackpool needed to pull all of the strings out to make sure he stayed at the club. Two more than capable players into the club in my opinion who will soften any blows due to Maguire going. Not worried in the slightest. I'm not gonna waste my breath on this one any more now the deal is done you lot can continue speaking complete and utter unfounded rubbish if it makes you feel better but the truth of the matter is that you just coughed up an over inflated asking price for a league one standard player, championship at best. I won't take anything away from the potential that Maguire has, in a few years he could well be a top player is he addresses his little faults but at the minute he isn't ready for the premiership!
