Just wanted to say, all Commenwealth games threads aside, i think this chap is amazing. No idea how to post a link but he was a 20 a day *** man and a drinker and weighed 16 st, gave it all up 7 years ago and started running and today finished in a record time for his age in 10 th place in the Marathon. As an over 40 semi couch potato, drinker and smoker, whose only excerise is walking the dog, I am just so delighted for this chap that he has done this because he believed he could change his life. I wish I could have such commitment but not sure running is for me.
Walking the dog, as long as its a bit more than to the pub and back, or walking anywhere is very good exercise Cate. And in your part of the world walking must be a joy.
It's been nearly two years since I stopped smoking and started looking after myself a bit better. I'm living proof that you don't always feel better having stopped. I've never had so many health issues before hand but I must admit that I do feel better, breathe better but try telling the body that. Anyway, if you can stop smoking, you ought to be congratulated and trust me, if l can do it, anyone can. It also helps if you have a supportive partner, like my good lady.
Watched him being interviewed last night on the CG programme, he actually said that he speciality running distance is 100km/62 miles and that his average time worked out at a little over 6 minutes per mile for that distance...... Remarkable what he has done in 7 years....
