Here's an interesting one - Nick Clegg says that the 2018 World Cup should be moved from Russia: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28508509 Of course FIFA would not have the balls to do it, and they are financially reliant on some Russian sponsors (part of the reason it's there in the first place). What do you guys think? Should politics ever be involved in sport? It would certainly send a message?
Given Russia's questionable involvement with the separatists in Ukraine and the way they are conducting themselves in international politics I think it would be more than fair to take the WC away from them !
A tasty match should they play each other! Russia should have never been given it in the first place, along with Qatar. FIFA needs stripping and put together correctly.
That is if Ukraine are in any position to even put a team together for qualification if the unrest turns into a full blown civil war stoked up by the new "USSR".
British fairness says that Russia should not have the World Cup and neither should Qatar. However if only truly democratic countries without blemish are allowed to host the WC or Olympics, there aren't many who would qualify as hosts. Brasil certainly would not, Argentina would not have in 1978. But life is not that Utopian and so while we want Russia to lose it, they will still be the hosts come 2018. As fans, our only sanction is not to buy tickets and to encourage our broadcasters to decline a share of the TV rights!
Let russia have the world cup, I've said it before and say it again if a few of the lager nations broke away from Fifa others would follow its time to leave mafia man Septimus Blatter and his chronies alone, lets start our own thing football british anyway lets take it back
Sport has long since taken a backseat to reality and we see it every day in the awarding of sports venues and we must realise that corruption rules in all aspects of life. Will the governing bodies of all sports wake up and smell the roses, not as long as some corrupt individual or country is waving money under their collective noses.
