QPR boss Harry Redknapp targets SIX more signings Jul 26, 2014 22:30 By Jacob Murtagh 0 Comments Leroy Fer and Troy Deeney just two names of the names on Rangers' shortlist On the blower: QPR manager Harry Redknapp has been trying to close deals while on tour in Germany QPR boss Harry Redknapp has targeted six more signings as he tries to strengthen his squad for the start of the Premier League campaign. New boys Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker couldnât prevent the Râs slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Red Bull Leipzig in the final game of their pre-season tour to Germany on Saturday. And the Loftus Road chief is hopeful chairman Tony Fernandes can get some deals over the line, with Leroy Fer and Troy Deeney both on his radar. âWe are still short, we have two strikers,â Redknapp said. âWe have Bobby [Zamora] and Charlie [Austin] but it is taking time. Hopefully in the next week or so we can put that right. âWe need some players there is no doubt about that, you can play any system you want but it takes a few good players, which we are short of, to make the difference. âWe're trying to get things done, Tony knows that obviously. "You can't go into a season with two strikers, Bobby is an off-the-bench man now and he knows that after what he did last season in the play-off final.â As well as a new frontman, Redknapp also wants to strengthen in the midfield department, with Adel Taarabt, who was left out of the squad for the trip to Germany, out of favour. He added: âWe need a couple of midfield players. And we need a number 10. âWe need to strengthen the squad for sure. If we can get good loans we will take them, but that have to be better than you already have, that's the key. âWe need a bit of quality, it is going to be a tough division this year. And we need that little bit of quality to keep us in there.â
I think we all know Harry is dreaming with his request for six signings............... Four good solid signings would a great result........ the main thing for me is two more strikers as we all know "goals win games", we can't rely on Charlie again all next season........... The person at QPR who agreed that Remy can have a 8.5 million relaese clause should be taken outside and shot.......... We are now looking at unproven strikers for more money !!!!!!!!
We need a couple of midfield players. And we need a number 10. Taarabt and Granero, Harry? Not English enough.
If Harry wants 6 players let give him 6 players. It seems that Tony wants Harry to stay. So give him the players to let him do his job. Last season we didn't want to spend money which was fair enough. Players were bought in on loan and a team was put together to get us back up. But that was it. We can't stay up with that team. This season we need to stay up but we can also look pass that. We seem to be worried about making the mistakes of Hughes again. Lets not make the mistake of Tango and Cash. We have slow put a core of a team together. The defence and goal keeper are now pretty much sorted. Lets now get a couple of strikers and a few solid midfielders. We then should be able to stay up and keep building. Harry is back from Germany. Come Tony hand over the credit card.
Whether it is mind games - ask for six and get three or four - or if it is actually six, we need to improve the squad. Currently the bookies have us and Burnley as the whipping boys for next season. We all know what we need to avoid that from happening.
What player signs for a club these days without a release clause??? The club did amazingly well to persuade Remy to join in the first place. I think Rednapp is right, we probably do need that many, especially if Adel isn't going to pull his weight and if Granero does go. My only concern is somewhere along the line we are going to have to bite the bullet and stick with the squad we have. Team spirit is worth more than trying to plug a round hole with a square plug, if you get what I mean. But at the same time Rednapp still hasn't really had a chance to build his team. Last January he only made 2 signings but it wasn't enough. Last summer we just couldn't buy the right sort of player and had to cope with life in the championship. So here we are again, pretty much needing wholesale changes, I just think we should do it slowly otherwise we'll be in the same position as before and continue the perpetual cycle of having to rebuild the team every year. But I do think this time around we have a nice team spirit and it's just a case of slotting in the right person, fingers crossed Harry shows he's a better manager in the Premiership than in the championship.
We can sign as many more strikers as we want. But, will HR play more than one in any match, apart from desperation at the end of a game? For me, our priority signing at the moment should be (as col stated) for a player capable of playing between the midfield five & Charlie. A question mark also hangs over the ability of Danny Simpson to play a wing back role. The selection of the wing backs will determine whether we are playing this system in a defensive or attacking mode. In our two matches so far, it has looked far more like a defensive midfield five with large gaps between them & The Lone Ranger upfront. Hopefully, as pre season nears it's end we will become more progressive & press a lot higher up the pitch.
