Probably had too much sun on my bald swede this morning but can't resist a little ew dabble on Hawkeyethenoo @ 40s in the Ascot cavalry charge. Getting on a bit but well drawn and recent runs suggest that another trip to the winners enclosure is not a forlorn hope.
Picture Dealer @ 25s over at York 3.30 too. Good luck all.

Given that the weather is lovely in Ascot, I've had a very nice bet on 2.40 Ascot American Hope 8/1. He's a horse I put up at Royal Ascot when a very unlucky 6th over C+D in the Brittania as he was undone by the draw as he led home his unfavoured group. He travelled powerfully throughout the race on what was his turf and handicap debut and at the 2f pole Shane Kelly got there still tanking along with no choice but to kick on. He definitely idled a bit in front as the high drawn numbers filled the first 5 places but I've no doubt at all that he would have gone very close had he been drawn high. The handicapper leaving him on an unchanged mark of 99 seems very generous to me and the 4th home on his side Table Rock has since gone on to win a handicap and Listed race on his next 2 starts. I'd have been ridiculously confident of victory had the rain not arrived but if it's generally good ground come race time I think he's going to take a huge amount of beating.

Going for Romsdal e/w in the King George. Good third in the derby and finished ahead of horses such as Westerm Hymn who has since won a group race in France very impressively. Stays the trip well and looks to still be on the upgrade. Never been out the top 3 and Richard Hughes is on board. Think he has been overlooked and 18/1 rates a nice each way bet

Sick there with American Hope. Shouldn't have sat him so close to the pace. He got there too soon once again and despite battling on gamely he got warn down late on. Definitely think he would have won comfortably had he not been in front as long as he was.

    Going Change @ Ascot 2:20p.m.

"The Times of the first 3 races strongly suggests the ground is riding closer to Good to Firm/Good in Places on round course"

Turning into a **** day already - hope I'm not just relying on Eagle Top by 3-50 to get me out of the cack!

Hopefully Horsted Keynes can start a revival :D

This is what Mike Murphy said after the run in the Britannia

"The pacemakers on the far side fell away leaving American hope in front at the 2f marker which was earlier than ideal as he could have done with a lead to inside the final furlong pole"

I don't understand why you sit him 2nd. Guessing it wasn't Shane Kelly's instructions.

To be fair, Kelly must have thought he was on easily the best horse, as the others got outpaced - then just got ambushed in the shadow of the winning post.

And now - just for a change - another impossible sprint handicap to solve.
