Aside from this , are we actually any closer to signing someone, anyone ?

 

Watch out, you'll get pulled up on semantics that this isn't a fire sale as the players aren't being sold cheaply..............

 

But if seven are going, we need something like ten coming in if we're to have anything approaching a squad. Even the most optimistic insiders aren't suggesting that. "Well, Koeman is here" is fairly cold comfort against the rest of the backdrop here.

McCarthy will replace Chambers as back up, so that's one sorted. If we haven't brought what I see as enough new players by the end of the window then I will change my mind.

 

So the Prem money was just burnt on a big bonfire?

 

And as a construction professional you'll know full well that this is a very common occurrence on non-fixed price work, particularly with sub-contractors employed left, right and centre. I don't for a second believe that the club didn't appoint a project manager (Mace, T&T, ECH, someone like that) to oversee the construction.

 

Isn't a fire sale when things get sold cheaply?

 

This is the type of thing that will turn me to a cold hard night of Candy Crush.

 

Even I'm wavering now, and that is saying something. But hey, there is still over a month left of the transfer window, so for now at least I am (probably naively) going to stay positive.

If true, £46m for Chambers and Morgan is sensational business in my book. Sensational.

But of course it would be on the back off Lambert, Lallana, Shaw and (seemingly over the next day or so) Lovren. So unless we do go on a shopping spree over the next few weeks - and come back with some right cracking purchasers - it suddenly wont like so sensational come September.

 

Fire sale might not be the best term. Liquidating assets, perhaps.

We won't get Rojo or Clasie, and even if we did that squad is worse than last year.

 

Of course it is worse.... But still a decent team.

 

That's just not a good team. It's reliant upon a bunch of players cutting their teeth on English football for the first time, with zero quality depth anywhere but central midfield if they get injured/fall short of the mark. Hopefully good enough to sneak 14th or 15th, but I wouldn't bank on it.

 

Which, goalkeepers aside, is considerably weaker than last season.

 

I was trying to do the least transfers in I could, hopefully there will be more. I have a bet on 11th and can still see us being around there.

 

Why do people keep saying it's a weaker team, kind of obvious it is.

 

Hopefully, but we really need two or three major, major signings in addition to those to even countenance sniffing the top half. Not Nathan Redmond or Redmond equivalents...guys who'll be star players on the team.
