Two I like tomorrow. First and foremost is CROSS OF HONOUR 4:40 Uttoxeter 10-1. This good looking chestnut gelding has been off the track for over 400 days and in the interim period has been fired. In that time the handicapper has been pretty generous in dropping him several pounds to a mark where at his best he would comfortably win this. I saw him work at the weekend (yes I was genuinely there) with Java Rose who you would expect to readily outpace him but none of it, he more than held his own and looked very fit. Off this mark I feel confident that he will run well and the fact that Fehily is on board is a definite plus.
Secondly I have to have a few quid on JAWAHAL DU MATHAN 2:20 Uttoxeter 12-1 who went in my notebook when narrowly beaten in Robber Stone's race earlier in the week. That day he was 5lbs wrong in the handicap an only went down by 1.1/2lengths. He is sure to get punished for that run so I am not surprised that they have him back out so quickly. He could very easily not be over his exertions but he is pretty much a winner without a penalty and at the price well worth a punt.
I was going to give TAKE A BOW a mention too in the first. He is currently without an owner and I reckon a few phone calls will be fielded by the trainer after he wins handsomely tomorrow. They don't often improve for leaving Seven Barrows but that said they don't usually go from there to Woodway Farm!

I know she's bit short to be tipping up but IMO she should be odds on and can see her going off at least even money. Has won some very smart races in Dubai and France and excuses can be given for her last run. SHe will take all the beating

Morning, troops. Quite decent racing today but nothing for me today as I think those bookie chappies have got these nice races about right and nothing stands out at the prices.

Going to be very interesting to see how Take A Bow gets on in his first race away from Seven Barrows this afternoon in the card commencer at Uttoxter (1.50). You can’t, of course, improve on perfection but let’s see if Mrs Hill can do her best with the old boy. Those bookie chappies though are giving absolutely nothing away re this one and going just 4/5. Interesting to see that the Bass boy retains the ride on Take A Bow and I bet Mrs Hill had a quiet word with him prior to purchase for his views on Mr Henderson’s former inmate. They must have been pleasing hence the purchase. Quite revealing from Stick that he is available for sale so it wouldn’t surprise me if connections were keen on a 10+ length romp today. Such a scenario would then see the £20,000 they recently paid Michael Buckley for Take A Bow look cheap and a nice profit quickly gained.

ATHENIAN goes back to Newmarket again tomorrow for a £25,000 7 Furlong Handicap (3.20). This will be her first try beyond 6 furlongs but I can’t see it causing any problems as Athenian stayed on very well last time and didn’t showing any signs of stopping as she powered past the post. More of a problem, to my eyes, will be the fact that she’s now 4 pounds higher than last week and that, in my view, tomorrow’s race is a very, very hot one. Kosika, who has won her last 3, looks a rapidly improving type, The Gold Cheongsam and Wedding Ring have both won big, rich races in the past, Laftah and Perfect Persuasion appear to be fastly improving 3YO’s who both race off a low weight, whilst Sir Michael’s Bragging could be anything. Don’t get me wrong I think Athenian has it in her locker to go very close again and that she should be extremely competitive off 96, as the ‘Group horse in a handicap’ comment still applies but in the minus column, as I’ve said, she’s got a higher perch and better opposition to race against. In conclusion I think she’ll be right up there but am not as confident as I was last week.

Good luck all.

good day folks, I have followed Stick over the cliff with his three Uttox selections and had a small e/w yankee on Brian Ellisons runners at York this evening. No common sense to the bet at all as vary rarely does one stable saddle four horses to make the frame in a day never mind at just one meeting.

Hardly a nice price now but i fully expect Connecticut to win again 8.10 Newmarket. The form of his York race is panning out nicely and the step up in trip is sure to suit.

Evens now unfortunately

How cruel racing can be for horses and connections. They have gone from getting ready for a cross code big prizemoney handicap attempt to being out for the season. Hope its nothing too serious/painful for him.

Don't take it personally Bob, we have all been spencered at some point or other.

Let me guess dropped horse out unnecessarily ? came late or attempted a gap which a blind man could see not the place to go and snatched up? or his latest trick started riding half a furlong after everyone else to show how good he is and post came too soon? He could spencer someone with any of the above or a combination of them.
