The Possession Game

I think our defense will come under more pressure this season than ever , since we've been in the Premier.One reason is I think our possession of the ball will dip . What will our average possession at seasons end be.
I think we will drop to 44% . What da ya think ?

 

Well if Monk is taking us back to the Swansea Way, I'd expect our possession to remain high, especially if Leon starts the majority of games. I'd expect around the 60% mark.

 

Match statistics under Monk we poorer than under Laudrup.

 

Not all of them - but, please, let's not go there!

Monks points per game ratio was better. That's the important stat

 

Reading Jonathan Cainer in the Mail this morning he predicts 51.75 % per game , someone must be bored thats all I can say

And goal difference (+3).

But of course those kind of stats count for nothing at the end of the day.

 

Whose statistics are they? Curious to know because others would seem to indicate a different picture.

 

Christ now we're guessing our future stats.

 

I posted an article back in March on another forum, now defunct, that analyzed Monk's first 6 leagues matches against the last 6 of Laudrup's. Data came from FourFourTwo Stats Zone. I thought I also posted something here, but I can't find it so perhaps I didn't. I have been meaning to update that for all of Monk's games and then do the comparison to see how it finally turned out and whether there were any trends beginning to show. I will do so and post on this forum before the start of the season.

Shouldn't that be the other way around, roof? And don't forget the brutal fixture list we had to contend with early season.

I remember Barcelona played Celtic and had 80% possession and lost 1-0 so you'll forgive me if I say, "**** possession percentages"!

 

Monk's goals per game ratio, goal difference, goals scored per game and goals conceded per game were all better.

Besides that his stats were awful.

 

He did it with someone elses healthy team during an easier shedule , we will see how he does with his own healthy team for a full season ... hopfully for a full season that is

 

I factored level of opposition into the numbers, but not player availability.
