I find the football side of CAFC boring and distant, the team is fast resembling what you find in the back of a lorry leaving Calais, I am not interested in watching a team of mercenary, ragbag, point me to the Porsche dealership, foreigners. Who are assembled by some mad Frankenstein of a chairman and his bit on the side who seem to have created one ugly, disjointed, and quite unappealing squad that has less attraction than a body to body oil massage from Susan Boyle. It is not the spirit of CAFC, it has little if anything that appeals to me and they are CAFC in name only. However, I do think we have some really fascinating fans, about 95% of this club fans are the absolute epitome of patience, understanding, and true 'take it as it comes' loyalty. The recent years have betrayed theses fans but they still go and will for years to come. I find our 5% the most entertaining, the J Ackworths, the Reams, the Henry Irvings, Airman and of course our leader Razil. Without you guys there would be no need for the word deluded, no need for Preparation H. You will be glad to hear that Razil will be representing the club this weekend at Wembley at the ' unelected trusts and those with plenty of time on their hands' annual get together to discuss such important topics as - How to peek into a 2nd floor boardroom by using just two chairs- How to avoid those stubborn brown stains on the nose, while walking behind the Chairman to his car - and the central topic of - if I had a girlfriend would I be here? More entertainment comes on the ITTV site where Reams has forgotten to post a threat of violence towards the older and less charged up members of the CL site for an entire hour and the importance of saying things to your face. His latest argument is perhaps one of his finest and is perhaps the campest argument I have seen since I saw two drag artists fighting over a wig. If you want to know the dangers of reaching forty I seriously suggest you read the "Another village has lost its idiot" thread. A pure delight of absolute patheticism. Will I still go this year- of course I will!
Of course you will. You're Addick for life. Those of us who have experienced the slings and arrows that come with following this club know that adversity must be borne with broad shoulders. When I sat through the debacle that was the 0 - 4 welting by Brighton at the Valley in 2010, I was aware of the nipper sitting in the seat next to mine, with his dad, looking forlorn and disappointed. I turned to him and said "Son, if you look after yourself, and manage to avoid serious illness, war and famine, you could have another 80 years of this to look forward to." His dad chuckled. He knew what I meant. Nobody ever said supporting Charlton Athletic was for the faint hearted.
I don't bother with other forums - the only one I did was the observer which was well run and wasn't overshadowed by petty fights. As for the trust - I asked a few weeks back if they were still going, but this now confirms that they are. When it becomes time for renewal I think they will see a drastic drop in members. Your average CAFC fan (going by twitter and Facebook) seem to be happy with RD and the changes he is making to the club. Their only hope will be a scaremongering story which usually comes from them around February to get people to sign up.
How true this is... There once was a time when I could spell the Charlton team except Memet Mahmat Dave Menhmet or whatever his name was and you could go up to Les Berry and not ask for an autograph but a light. What really sets off my thrush is that things have changed so much OFF the pitch. We have trusts and action groups and forums and they serve no real purpose other than to promote the egotistic. The Valley Party would never have succeeded in this the internet age. Can you imagine ITTV supporting anything from CL? We are now described in most quarters as "the club that was once a model of efficiency and organisation" The club whose fans "got their wish and it turned into a nitemare" rightly or wrongly this club has turned itself upside and inside out and now look to Dr Frankenstein for salvation. A sorry state of affairs indeed.
that forum is a fascinating read - especially that thread. i signed up for that forum for about a minute, posted one positive post on chris powell, got heckled and decided "nah, not for me". too many keyboard warriors over there.
A lot of forum's problems all over the internet are most believe their opinion is fact, and everyone else is wrong, then people with the same opinions team up and hound every other "wrong" user. CL is just that, a group of very opinionated users who are never wrong... Its nice to have a bit of variety on here, getting all sides of the argument
Have you received it in the post yet? I phoned them up last friday to ask where mine was, and they said I'd have it within 2 weeks!
Haven't received mine, Billy. Maybe it's a Forest Hill thing! But on a serious note, they posted pics on their twitter last week of them sending them out. You could only see 3 people getting through the 9000 odd they have to send!
Heyy... I'm Addick4Life First Eddie gets mistaken for Vol on ITTV now Typical is confused with me on here lol!
My apologies. I hope this won't lead to a ban for copyright infringement. It's not the first time I've made such a faux pas. I once mistook Eddie Firmani for a manager.
Totally agree with the first para of your post Typical. I haven't got a clue who most of the new players are - the only 2 I do know I didn't really want them anywhere near a Charlton shirt (esp the mercenary Ben haim). I feel no affinity with the club anymore, after over 40 years of supporting them, and have little enthusiasm for the new season. On the subject of Into The Valley - what a childish bunch of supposed grown ups they are; with their nasty jibes about everyone on CL, anyone who liked Chris Powell, anyone who doesn't agree with everything they say. At least they have reintroduced the comedy hour - giving Acworth his own space to talk bollocks again
Was it definitely Charlton, and not Liege, St Truiden etc? Still nothing for me! And welcome Miss-Understood.
I received a letter from Katrin Meire today attempting to get me to buy a season ticket again. I can't, as I'm going back to university in Southampton in September, but I was amused to see her describe Bob as the 'Gaffa' - I always thought it was spelt 'gaffer'. Am I going crazy?
I do think that maybe next season our season tickets should be interchangeable so that we can use them at any one of RD's play things in England Belgium Hungary wherever makes sense to me as we are just one big club now . As for the other forums have glanced at them and to be honest worth as much as a Bob Peeters say in player transfers at charlton Zero
