I think they can run a business, it just seems that they are struggling to get to grips with the fact that in football your prized assets are human beings, who can rightly or wrongly get the right hump at times.

If Fonte goes then I will have far more of a meltdown than over Shaw, Lallana or Lovren, as it would hint at a far more deep rooted problem at the club. How hard can it be to sit someone down and say "thanks for wanting to stay, we appreciate your loyalty, sign here."

There is obviously something awry, it's not just the fact players have left or are leaving, it's been their/our utter refusal to even consider the notion....odd.

Yeah; even if Les was the undisputed champion of interpersonal relations, it'd still be rather difficult for him to be the only person in the executive who can deal with anything on the football side of the equation...there's a hell of a lot to do this summer. It's still not too late to get a chairman of some value, Katharina.

    So we believing Crook now?
If that is how he got his contract then that's badly handled. Krueger etc need to step up and not leave it all for Reed.

If that's the case Krueger doesn't need to step up...he needs to step down.

I don't really understand the issue here. He wants a contract and they sent him a letter saying he will get one. It isn't like they sent the contract in the post. For me, his point of contact with the board should be Koeman until actual contract negotiations. Isn't Krueger in the US anyway?

Southampton snap up Torquay United youngster
The Saints have signed promising 15-year-old goalkeeper Neal Osborn from Conference Premier side Torquay.
Torquay have suffered financial problems since their relegation out of the Football League last season, and were happy with the 'significant sum' that Southampton paid them for the teenager.
Although the fee hasn't been disclosed, speculation on Twitter suggests the initial payment could be around the £40,000, with add-ons that could increase the fee to £1.3 million.
Torquay youth boss Geoff Harrop told the BBC: "This deal represents a five-figure sum for the club, and with add-ons for the future.
"I am so pleased we have been able to play our part in helping a local lad to ply his trade in the Premier League."

I would be surprised if Fonte leaves us as it won't be for a bigger club, unless he wants a longer contract. Why uproot your family? Don't see a problem with the letter...he's been informed officially and will get a contract in due course. Remember we are tied up in negotiations with incoming players.

This is actually true of any business, though it's astonishing how many people across industry can't seem to see it.

Would be surprised to see Fonte go, unless the staff think we have a better player who could be bought in. Any losses in his position would have to be accounted for.

I have pointed out to many Finance Managers that I find it strange that they list the machinery under assets and the people under costs.

I think some people may be missing one key point. I would guess the letter went to his agent.

"Dear Mr lovely Agent type person

We are writing to inform you that we haven't forgotten about your client, Jose Fontez Baby, referring to contract discussions. I hope you and he appreciate that he is a valued member of our squad and a contract will be forthcoming: a two year deal is been finalised for offer. As he and you will no doubt be aware some of his buddies have behaved like female genitalia and so we are putting a huge effort into replacing them with quality players. There is also the small matter of trying all we can to have that pirate chap walk the plank.. Something your client will no doubt appreciate.

Thanks for your understanding and we'll be in touch to sit down to over a glass of jose's favourite Mateus in the next couple of weeks. When you come in, you an see my saves and I'll tell you all about how I got them.

Yours on a have A Good Day day

    Roger the Dodger"

This is afterall why they employ agents.

Because, clearly, there's still discussions to be had?

On the Fonte thing, I really can't see him leaving. He's about to be offered the captaincy, but being offered a new contract by letter is a little weird? I only hope it went special delivery, otherwise it could end up somewhere else.

No one? These three have been mentioned a lot. To the point of extreme tedium, actually.
