Is this another one of MrTiote's aliases. Signings are good and for me we are a good bet for another top 10 finish. you do know we got relegated with 15 points less than last season after Allardyce left.

Yeah I think the signings are good too. Gonna be tough to replace cabs but de jong could do it. Every where else is a huge upgrade to be honest.

We have made part of the necessary signings just to keep our head above water but without a quality striker it will make it all pretty much redundant. We need a goal scorer and going into next season without one is sheer insanity.

    Debuchy?

And the words "on paper" should be etched on everyone's mind.

Debuchy was good but he wasn't as good as his reputation particularly with regard to consistency over a full season. The little I have seen of Janmaat suggests he will be a more than equal replacement.

5 not replaced demba ba and the rest we are no different than before with a piss poor effort to fix the strength and depth and the defence is still going to be a joy for teams to play Against

I've gone for 6. We've signed a lot more than I expected we would and we acted quickly in replacing Debuchy, but I still feel we need a fifteen goal a season striker and I don't rate Taylor at Centre half and surely we can improve on Williamson. I think though as long as Colos wages are on the books and MYM is still in the squad the centre half position will just be neglected until one / both of them go.

Looks like the club are trying to offload MYM and Jonas, Obertan and HBA. If they pull it off that nay free up the ££££ to get a couple of decent Cb's on board as well as that all important striker.

If we don't get anyone else in then how well we do will depend a lot on how lucky we are with injuries. A couple of long term injuries to key men and we could struggle. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Newcastle players always seem to be injury prone.

Were the clubs accounts not supposed to be published by now by the way?? Just wondering how we still appear to be running in 2014 at a profit in terms of transfers.

Only a 5 for me as we are light on experienced striker, CB and midfield playmaker. Get them in and the score would shoot up. We must be stronger this season than last.

Gone for 7 as i did not think fat boy would buy anything so in my mind what we have signed is a bonus...De jong,Cabella and Janmatt look quality and Colback solid...If tactically played and drilled correctly stay injury free we have the makings of a good team but then there is the Pardpoo factor. You never know with the toon.

Seems like we just run a very simple quota system, it's like we've applied our own internal FA-style squad rules. No more than two senior players per position, the end. Plus, in more of a Fantasy Football style, we have a finite amount of points/money we can spend across the whole squad. So just like you'll pick Van Persie and compensate by throwing Gabriel Obertan into your fantasy squad, so our manager has to work within the same financial constraints. Getting easy to predict a transfer window as a result, and explains why we now have a revolving door policy rather than an "invest in the squad" model. Also explains why we don't spend more money getting better backup than the likes of Eliott or Ryan Taylor - they'll "do", let's just pray to the football gods that Krul/Janmaat NEVER get injured.

    Krul/Eliott, Janmaat/Raylor, Colo/MYM, Willo/Saylor, Santon/Haidara, Sissoko/HBA, Tiote/Colback, SDJ/Anita, Cabella/Gouff, Cisse/Arma, Riviere/Ayoze.

Now I think we'll still buy a striker, because really you can count Arma and Ayoze as u-21's, thus not first teamers. Same applies to the likes of Dummett, Ameobi, Vuckic, Bigi, Good, Streete, Satka, Aarons. They're not on first team wages, is the one deciding factor rather than their age. So the simple fact is we have space in our fantasy team for one more solid buy, and that's up front. Also I think that's why MYM is the one being touted around, because he frees up some wage-space (along with cutting ties with HBA, Obertan and Marv) for a fairly decent investment at the back. I think we'll end the window with two or maybe three more promising players and at that point I'll up my original '3' to '6', because I still feel we should be able to do better than Willo, Saylor, Raylor, Obertan and Eliott. I would not be surprised to see Townsend, Ings and De Vrij in the squad. Actually, if we added them and only shipped MYM, HBA, Obertan and Jonas I'd go for 8.

Good post Roland. I'd be happy with those further three in, and the four out you mentioned. I love HBA, but it'd be best all round if he went now.

The consensus seems to be that most are reasonably happy.

Mild rumours circulating that we've "signed" Virgil van Dijk from Celtic.

I went 5 initially ...as that is ...average ..basic replacements of the players who have left..(whether due to Pardew's insistence that everyone rotates into the LB position at some point/lack of ambition/greed etc etc) .

In retrospect should have gone for a 4, possibly 3 ..We have done the MINIMUM to get by next season ..replaced like for like..

Could argue that the quality of the squad is marginally better..just

Currently Squad depth is poorer ..ie Marv loaned, HBA only allowed to play for the Canteen's team (all you can eat perk, hence his BBW status..big, beautiful winger)

beyond that ..same 'ol, same 'ol

If, and its a HUGE if, we actually tried and managed to get over the ever shifting line, a quality striker, CB AND a creative mid ..that would be a an 8 for me
