I've just seen an article that there was/is a booze culture at Sunderland? The column is written by a secret footballer. Here it is: http://www.thesecretfootballer.com/articles/the-secret-footballer/13468/black-cats-on-the-booze/ A couple of questions: 1) Is this lies or have I missed something? 2) Has there been anything spilled on who the author may be online? Cheers!
...Stephane Sessegnon has been banned from driving for 20 months after ... to driving a vehicle above the alcohol limit http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...500-bottle-champagne-Ocean-Club-Marbella.html i'm sure we could google more...
Anyway, better alcohol the being caught down the quayside with cocaine like a certain other north east clubs players.
"I can vividly remember being in Marbella when one Sunderland player ordered a Nebuchadnezzar of champagne for £75,000. Seriously. A waiter bought it out on a trolley and it took three of them to pour it every time he wanted to top up his glass." Yes, it's a shocker! A player, on his summer holidays, relaxing with a drink. Sad that the poor fella was sitting on his own without any friends or family to share his bubbly
When I lived in Marbella, and I'm sure the same for you Smug on the Cote d'azur, there was a constant stream of Premier League footballers there in the off season. The biggest group I ever noticed was a Man City group, including several of the top, top names (mainly English mind, have to note..). They were hammering Banus every night, but you know what, they won the league that season. Footballers are young lads with money, when young lads with money get time off they have a drink with their pals, standard. If they are rolling out of bars on Thursday or Friday on a game weekend, then there's an issue, if this happened, we would ALL know about it.
And why not? It's a bit pointless climbing to the top of a stressful profession and spending your holidays on a treadmill. I used to take people to Nikki Beach, Club 55 & the Caves du Roy ......... Rooney and his mates had to be helped back into the limos.
Yep, with the moralising as well mate, what would most of us do in that situation. I can tell you right now was I a Sunderland player, I'd spend summer drinking, travelling etc, but would that make me unprofessional? I'd be busting my bollocks pre-season. It's normality, basically.
I used to dread pre-season when I played Sunday League, the boss would have us sweating buckets but we were always ready and up for it.
A mate of mine got speaking to James McFadden during his time at SAFC. He said that Sunderland had the worst drinking culture he had ever seen at any of the clubs he had played for. This was obviously from the MON era and was certainly what Di Canio spotted straight away and tried to do something about, before being lynched by the players who were no doubt the culprits of the nights out.
Yep, old article. Helps explain why PDC got the chop, asking players to be professional. What on earth was he thinking? Lets hope those bad old days are just that, ancient history.
This article was a big reason in my defence of PDC, christ we even have posters on here who've seen Sunderland players binge drinking. We knew Catts liked a drink. PDC was always spot on. But he went about it wrong, tried the tough hand before he'd established their respect. Played into their hands really.
Shows exactly what's wrong with the modern game mate. PDC, "What's going on here, this is totally unacceptable at a Premier League club!" Players, "Don't be so nasty, Uncle Martin never interfered and Bruce & Bally even used to join in." PDC, "Sorry but you'll all have to shape up and earn your wages." Players, "Right that's it, we're going to fold our arms and sulk."
I'll tell you what. I don't know about Sunderland players drinking but I've a big snot up my nose that I can't get out. The twat is stuck to my nostril hair man.
