"We need to stay in the league this year so we know what we are getting with the Caulkers and the Rios. We are looking at another English striker so if I can get British players in the main then I will."

Thoughts on who this may be? Deeney, Crouch, Defoe? Anyone else to add to the list?

It won't be deeney, they turned down 7.5m for him.

Crouch or Defoe would be a typical lazy Redknapp signing.
Kane might be a long shot.
I'd be amazed if its anyone not from his old teams.

I fully agree with the principle of having the backbone of the team made up of British and Irish players that we are familiar with and know what we are getting.

Very unwise IMO ... England has a very low stock of talent IMO that can't be compared to the rest of Europe

The Premier League is based in England but without oversea talent it would lose any status UK fans thinks it has ... Overnight it would become comparable to Scottish Football with just a couple of teams that could maybe compete within Europe.

What is inside Harold? I am guessing fossilised jellied eels

The mix has got to be right. I feel that it is right to have a majority of British and Irish players. We do need though an infusion of foreign players to provide that bit of flair provided they are the right type of course. We need a battling mentality to survive and you are more likely to get that from British and Irish players. Pardon the stereotyping.

Hull have tried that and look what they spent.

Ideally we'd want to bring our own British and Irish players through ourselves or scout well like Burnley have. Austin, ings, vokes and Rodriguez have come though in the last 4 years for them, all 20 goals scorers.

Then top it off with foreign buys which are much cheaper. 3m for Faurlin, 150k(!) For Yun etc

My money's on Hooper too, about £4m or else he's not worth it.

We could always try for the next Remy - that wasn't a bad gamble.

I'd be much happier with a good mix of Costa Rica, Mexican, Colombian, Ecuadorian, Bolivia, Peruvian, Chilean, Urugyan, Algerian and a Moroccan in our attacking assets. Further back I'd like to see an Urugyan, Argentina, Italian, Dutch and Germans. In goal well Germany and Mexico have the right sorts. British, Irish Scandinavians? No one really of interest is there

No they didn't IMO and we got very lucky IMO. Wigan outplayed us as did Derby

But the results were brilliant ... but that doesn't make for a good discussion for future signings esp as he is on record talking about the Dutch player that has to be good as he is in the Dutch team?

New campaign in a league full of multi nationals what Harold is claimed to have said is very naive IMO

English Strikers start by making a list ... it runs out pretty quickly IMO if you compare that to any European country.

But we have to be on side whatever player ends up at QPR. If it was me I would have doubled Remy's money or do what ever was necessary to keep talent at our club

Yes Remy may have wanted out whatever o there were binding contract stuff but IMO that doesn't escape the fact that we had a real goal scoring talent at the club and he has been sold

I admit openly that I am not excited about QPR for as long as i can remember ... we have no flair and just a soundbite that we will find a brilliant English Striker from where?

Austin may come good but i have yet to see anything apart from hysteria from QPR fans ... IMO he will find it very hard this season. Nugent, the Burnley boys also

Defoe would be a massive buy and is teh only player i can think of that would hit the ground running in less than 5 weeks ... Doyle must be a back up plan?

Lots of very astute observations in DT's stuff above but regarding Remy there was no way HR and more importantly TF was going to chase after a big reputation player who wanted to be elsewhere after the Bosingwa debacle.

Heard many times Managers/Chairmen declaring if a player wants away, it is pointless trying to stop them.

The Suarez/Liverpool want away last season was an exception - you dont hear that very often.

Surely we only want players who want to be here ? Dont see the point in holding onto players against their will - you're not going to get the best out of them, and certainly not good for the dressing room !!

As long as it's not someone in the ilk of crouch/defoe, I'm happy.
The supposed Leicester bids for Deeney sounded like tabloid rubbish, so I still expect it's him.

I think Deeney could offer us a lot. I would be really disappointed if we couldn't persuade him to join us over Leicester. Particularly as he's a local lad.
