His hold up play was decent enough, he likes a little chest down to a midfielder running on, but JWP was playing too deep to capitalise on some nice lay downs and they were just picked off by the Swindon players in the main. He was getting pretty frustrated at the lack of service coming in from the wings and was throwing his arms around a bit, there were probably only 2 half decent crosses coming in in open play for him to attack, so can understand his frustration. Hopefully he is just not at peak fitness atm as he was pretty slow and lumbering about, the midfield 3 of Cork, Reed and JWP were pressing well but Swindon managed to find an out ball pretty regularly to the guy who Pelle was supposed to be pressing. This should improve with more game time you would hope though.
I find him getting a second one year contract extension to be slightly bizarre. He must be showing a bit in training for us to give another opportunity, but from other viewpoints McQueen already looks to be ahead of him and with Sims & Hesketh moving to the u21s he looks a bit of a spare part in the squad.
Can anyone who has seen one of the games live confirm whether we seem to be sticking to our high pressing and defensive line approach from last season, would be really disappointed to move away from that.
A bit off topic.anyone know if i will get charged the £2-50 fee for the bayern match at st marys if i get the tickets at the stadium?
The only thing I can think of is that with our already thin squad losing a lot of bodies, he'd be good to keep around because at least he's actually played Football League games, so he's just another body in case of emergency.
Pelle looked very static through out the whole first half, but managed to get head on every ball knocked forward despite being hassled by both centre backs in the air. Linked up well with the two wingers just wasn't handed many great opportunity's to grab a goal. McQueen scarily looks and plays very similar to Lallana in the sense he's not the very quickest but is able to loose his man and has a great delivery on him. Shame he came came off injured, as he was growing into the game. Reed looked like he had great energy but seemed to give away a few too many fouls. Reminded me of Chaplow. Could be a handy sub next year. Clyne's pace is still a great asset, worked really well with Mcqueen on the overlap. Chambers started where Clyne left off and looked the best player on the field 2nd half. Sharp looked good when he came on, he may not be a premier league player but he could do a good job at Championship level etc. Mayuka's pace could be an asset just needs work on his delivery and finishing. JWP & Cork made us tick. Both looked really comfortable in the ball, and will suit our new formation. Couldn't really comment much on Targett at this stage. Looked a bit hesitant at times, but looked really confident going forward with the ball.
