Or would you say 11 million possibly means we have done this to Liverpool? Does it feel like 2nd time around what with the kid they have now in England team or would you say there was no guarantee he would get to the level he is now, so we got a fair price?
The club and player knew the arrangement when he arrived: he'd use us as a shop window whilst trying to keep us up (tony/arry etc. admitted as much at the time).. It's unlikely he'd have stayed even if we avoided relegation. As someone else said- I doubt he'd have agreed to come if we'd whacked a massive release clause on him. The idea wasn't to tie him to the club, it was to recoup our expenditure. He was only ever a last-gasp attempt to keep us in the PL, in a similar mould to Chris Samba.
It's business. Remy's an ambitious player who wouldn't have got into the France squad for Brazil had he been playing with us in the Championship. Now he's looking to play in Europe, and that won't be with us for a few seasons at least. Fair play to him being ambitious, and we've got a decent deal and the cash to spend on a good replacement tailored to fit into our squad NOW, rather than two years ago. Nobody's been shafted, nobody's been disloyal, it's just football.
well put, I really can see so many points of view on Loic Remy, personally I think Liverpool fans will take to him,he is a snip when you consider what they got from Barcelona for suarez
I wil;l be happy when the mercenary **** has gone I am sick of these threads keep repeating the same old thing, get over it he has gone.
The arrangement was clear to all parties when he joined. We were only ever going to get around £8m when he left, wherever he went. Personally, having seen some other inflated transfer fees, I think he's worth a very great deal more than £8m but my expectations, both financial and in terms of his "loyalty", were set from Day 1. There is a not a voting option to reflect my views (as above) so I have not voted.
He only ever came to put himself in the window, which he did very well during his short time with us and season at Newcastle. Liverpool are getting a very good player for a very good price but for us to get him in the first place we had no choice but to add those clauses. If the price is eventually £11m, plus the £2m "loan fee" from Newcastle last season thats still a £5m profit on a player that never really felt like ours!
As soon as he walks out the door I will have forgotten him. Who cares. Goodbye. I will instantly move on and support the striker we sign in his place.
